Lol. Thank you.

I didn't want to start a debate. I just get a little more emotional when 60+ people lose their lives for nothing.

Peace. Love. Dope.

Changing gears here.
Not sure if you may have ever checked it out after our music discussion on here a while back, but since I happen to be listening to it right now...

I don't even really know, to be honest. It's not something that the average citizen even thinks about. We just don't have 'em. Not in crazy numbers anyway.
I do know that EVERY single must be registered. Even hunting rifles. That one caused a bit of a stir a while back, but it passed without much trouble.

edit: I don't think I've ever actually seen a real handgun here, outside of the ones in Cop's holsters.

You cant buy gun in NYC without first going to the police department and requesting a purchase order to get one, that's AFTER you get your license, which now takes over 1 year. Then, the gun must be brought to the police department and registered. They make the process so burdensome that those who just try to do it on a whim give up out of frustration. Different rules for different states (And different lifestyles) become the problem once those guns get flushed illegally into the national market.

That's just NYC though, other than for pistol permits. The rest of NY requires a pistol permit license that takes about 6-9 months to be approved, pending checking on all your character references and an interview with a police officer at your local precinct. I've had my application filled out for about a year now and haven't done anything with it.

Anywhere else in NY you can waltz right into a gun shop/big-box sporting goods store and walk out with a long gun the same day, assuming it's not one that requires some sort of special clearance (ie: LEO's can buy personal AR's that don't fit normal civilian regulations). And NY is one of the top-5 strictest gun-law states in the country.

There are changes that should be made, I'm just not convinced that a lot of the proposed ones I've seen would actually be effective.

Is that true in Nassau and Suffolk? I think Westchester is pretty strict too.
Outside of those counties... the population is much sparser so hunting and open land is more prevalent, so I can see it

Probably not. NRA has way too much clout. They're a little extreme, even for me...an owner of multiple guns. Their refusal to budge on any issues whatsoever is ridiculous.

Knee-jerk reactions from people that don't know what they are talking about.
My wife even said that semi-auto guns should be banned. When I asked her if she knew what that meant, she described fully-auto. After explaining the difference she calmed down. Should Ruger 10/22 be banned? I sure as hell hope not, that is fun and accurate for bunnies and tree rats.

I know for a fact that I have to fill out a pistol permit application for a Sportsman's Permit, which essentially affords me only two rights. 1) To be able to buy/own a pistol and store it in my home and 2) To be legally allowed to have it in a locked, secure box in my car for transport to and from a pistol range only. Possessing it outside my home any other time than in direct transit to a range would be, technically, illegal.

Permits usually take anywhere from 6mo-9mo and, aside from the litany of questions you need to answer, you have to fill out 4 non-family/LEO character references and have them sign the application. They check out all the references and then you have to go in and sit with a cop at the precinct for an interview (likely so they can corroborate your application to what you tell them in person).

No. These are the guys that discovered the Sadies. That link I sent is one of my favourites. Whenever we play that one when there's a garage night, it's the most fun song of the night!

I agree, but then again, they represent people who live in bumfulck nowhere who have much different lives than us. I surely don't want some of the nonsense guns those people use here in NY, just as much as they don't want others telling them they have to get rid of stuff they already have.
People need to come together, but all politics aside, listen to everyone's side and hopefully come up with a solution that WILL include compromise on everyone's part.
Compromise is the key word.
