I think he's on the downswing, but I think he'll be a good mentor for their young guys |

I think that is pretty accurate. It's gonna burn if he gets even better but I doubt it. |

I think his point totals might go up a tad, but I don't think the team will be much better. |

Don't think anyone is getting worked up. Just discussing things before the game. I personally think its a dumb move just like Vesey on the 4th and Skjei no PP. I also agree I don't think these things will last.
Watch Chytil scores two shorties tonight. - mdw7413
I gotta say, I think taking a guy whose primary and most glaring skill is his offense / vision and putting him on the PK is "Miscasting" at best. A coach should be putting players in positions to succeed and best utilize their skills to help them team, same using McD over Skjei on a PP unti. I understand if he wants him to learn the defensive game, but the PK doesn't make sense to me. Take guys that have defensive mindsets and use them. There is a time to learn and I don't think that time is Game 1 of your NHL career.. its practice. |

Yup, pretty much what I have been saying. Good thing is its only game 1 and I'm positive there will be changes.
And truthfully, I hope AV is right and the Rangers come out blazing this month. |

Not on the topic of the Rangers, but McDavid is the best player I have seen come into the league in a long, long time. I don't think he will in this day in age, but I wonder if he could score 70+ goals. |

He is a joy to watch that for sure. His speed WITH the puck is off the charts. On his second goal last night it looked like he was shot out of a cannon, 70 is a TOUGH number I'd love to see him break 60. The last person to do that was Stamkos in 2012
65 was Ovie in 2008
Those are lofty goals! Would bring some nice attention to the sport too. |

I don't think it's possible in today's game, but if you transported him back in time to the late 80s/early 90s, I think he could give Gretzky's record a run.

Maybe... Maybe, but he is also more of a setup guy than a goal scorer as well.
Granted a setup guy that scored 30 last year but he had 70 assists
He's not like an Ovie or Stamkos who are shoot first guys.
Then again Gretzky was a setup guy as well, except he was 20 years ahead of the game, so when everyone else is two steps behind you mentally you can pot quite a few goals.
But Nowadays.... I think 65/70 is a VERY high ceiling. |
