I don't get it. There's at least one guy in that top 9 who can go.

I might be the only guy who hasn't bought into the Jordan Weal bandwagon yet. Not that weal is my biggest problem in the top 9.

- mayorofangrytown

I like Weal a lot. I'm curious what he would have done last year in a full year if he made the team out of camp like he should have. Its ridiculous it took a Konecny injury for him to get his shot.

I'm not completely sold on him yet though as last year was too small of a sample, but I definitely like what he did and am excited. I wouldn't have guaranteed him a top 9 spot though. Outside of Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Couturier, and Konecny nothing should have been guaranteed.

Their evaluation of Weise is concerning. They're really throwing Konecny in quick sand to start the year with him and Flip on a line.

I can't wait for next year when Friedman, Myers, and Vorobyov are knocking on the door too!

I'm struggling desperately right now not to completely justify my username.

I might be a Leafs fan. I'd rather follow a team with some balls.

Bill, did Hextall not just say the kids would not be here to sit in the press box? What is the logic behind this? I’m not going to go on about AMac, he’s got an A now, but there is no reason Manning plays over either of the kids.
- Flyers1218

He didn't say they'd always play. He said they aren't going to be scratches for long stretches. I have to be honest: This isn't the group of six starters or the combinations I was hoping to see, but I know why it's being done. Hakstol still trusts the older guys more.

Apparently they're at least 3 years from NHL playing time

I'm still salty that they said Lindblom needed to produce, but he scored a goal in the last game he played.

I view this team as a bubble team no matter what they did with the roster. The metro is just really tough at the moment. Lindblom, Sanheim, and Morin are all ready IMO. They are a bubble team with or without them. That being said, with them, this roster would have really high upside. Sanheim could have an effect similar to Ghost's rookie year. I just don't know how the team doesn't see this when it was not very long ago.

Since the argument seems to be that the vets give this team the best chance to win, they better make the playoffs this year.

Their lack of talent evaluation at the NHL level has me really concerned for when the time comes to make some deals to put them over the top.

- JFlyers00

i have to believe sanheim, and morin will be here by next year as regulars at the latest. lindblom i'm not sure. i really wish they would have given him a chance to start with the team and see. i know the ahl will not hurt him. for some reason i can see this whole thing with him not panning out though. but i want to see our youth now. NOW.

I mean, Morin's first passes were not the greatest in the few games I went to and he makes some mental mistakes but all in all the guy did a good job and well, let the kid show he can clean up his game by, you know, (frank)ing playing. Like I said before, i don't dislike Manning. But he is a hard working dman with limitations. Morin has so much more upside and can be a difference maker. I am just so upset right now.

i refuse to believe manning is more capable than morin at this point. can't. won't.

oh, please let me know when manning rips a puck over csp's shoulder and make him look like a (frank)ing traffic cone. i'll wait......

Per Dave Isaac, Ghost w/ Hägg in morning skate, Manning w/ Gudas plus expected Provorov-MacD pair. If these pairings hold, Sanheim & Morin are the scratches.

Manning in and Morin out is frustrating and a mistake, IMO

Again, I thought we were getting a progressive coach in Hakstol. A younger guy from the college game willing to take chances and not go the conservative route.

Looks like more business as usual. Won't feel guilty going to bed after the first period tonight.

Not sure what kind of start Weise will get off to. But people keep forgetting that Filppula, for whatever the shot-attempt differential stats say, had 35 even strength points last year between Tampa and the Flyers. He is good at distributing the puck and there's a chance he and Konecny could develop some chemistry especially if they get some easier matchups with other teams focused on the top two lines. If not, Simmonds liked playing with Filppula and Weal last year. If Patrick gets off to a slow start, he could switch linemates with Filppula.

I'm not happy they're scratching Morin but I think it's very possible we see a new rookie in the line up tomorrow. Whether it's Hagg or a Veteran they're replacing. May be his way of not overwhelming the rookies out of the gate wit 3 games in 4 nights on the west coast.

That just makes it worse in my eyes. I thought one of the reasons Hak was hired was his supposed ability to work with and develop youth. Yet, as time goes on, he just seems more and more like an old school NHL coach. Very disappointing to say the least.

Again, I'm not saying that this is the group of six or the combos that I personally hoped to see or that I'm wild about the D pairs that were selected. Just saying that Hakstol clearly still has more trust in the older guys at least for opening night.

I get it. Hak needs to worry about his job. With rookies comes mistakes. But frankly, no one is expecting anything out of this year. They can’t learn if they don’t play. We know Brandon Manning, I’m sure there is a team out there he could play defense for in this league. But there are more talented players here on this team and he has no business being in the top 6.

when they hired Hakstol one thing I thought was that he would be a good coach for all of the kids coming up. I was a supporter but man he is losing me. as far as Hextall I get being cautious but JFC at what point do the kid dmen play? Morin absolutely needs to be in the lineup. this lineup looked terrible against the Isles. the Flyers just looked better with the young dmen in the lineup.

line up is written in cement. No matter how Manning plays he will always be held in a higher regard than some untrustworthy rookies.

I would go as far as to call it infuriating. Hak trusts the older guys... who failed last year. WTF?

How can you trust a rookie when you don't present him a fair opportunity to do so. 😞

caution and preparation to a point, but JFC let the kids that have been groomed for the last 3-4 years (frank)ing play.

I'm very even tempered and patient when it comes to the Flyers. have absolutely no issue with Lindblom going down. I can understand why sending Sanheim makes sense. I believe in not rushing players. I was against Coots making the team as an 18 YO. But sitting Morin tonight really has me frustrated. no one can convince me Manning is a better option over Morin. I will lose my mind if he is a healthy scratch again tomorrow and Saturday

It just makes no sense to sit both kids. One or the other I can understand, but scratching both to make a spot for a journeyman like Manning just doesn't seem to make much sense.
