Camp was fun until they gave out the assistant Captaincies to two players who have zero shot at a future here and/or not that great. Plus one of our prizes and more exciting rookies won't play. |

So the general consensus of the message boards are that:
1. The flyers aren't a playoff team
2. Why is AMac in the lineup, an Alt Captain, breathing air
3. Brandon Manning belongs in a disney on ice production over being in the NHL
4. Excitement about the kids
5. Weise seems like this years VDV
One thing Im surprised hasnt been mentioned yet at all, are the names Neuvirth and Eliott. I'd call that baby steps. - sjk540
i disagree with the general consensus for 1. if that is in fact the consensus. we're really look at a 10 pt improvement to get in. 5 lousy (frank)ing games. that's it. the entire season. Will there be games they can win that they perhaps shouldn't and/or not blow. Absolutely. will giroux continue to decline, voracek have another down year? will they be this bad on the road? not score at 5 on 5...i am choosing to see this all not happening. again.
i'm just gonna' say it. they're getting in.

all of this annoys me, but i believe the rookies will make their way in at some point this season. also, injuries are a funny thing. never know what will happen there.
i'd rather see lindblom, morin, and sanheim all on the team right now. hopefully, they end the season here with a playoff berth. |

Which of the prizes will you miss the most? You can pick two if you'd like.

I just can't find 8 teams I think they'll be better than.
I'd think they better get in. They kept veterans who were reasonably outplayed by rookies and sent those rookies down. The justification has to be that they think the vets give them a better chance to win because Hextall said that's the overriding commitment, will they make the team better. The answer was no.
If this team isn't making the playoffs the roster cuts make even less sense. |

You realize that this was a players' vote? They decided on Filp and MacDonald, not management or the coaching staff. I'm sure as hell certain they don't give a damn about your opinion regarding locker room leadership.

i can see that. the good news is that we have an injection of youth/skill, and a few banging on the door to get in. it puts pressure on them AND the vets clinging to jobs.
i want to see the goalies and key previously slumping vets contribute what they should..shoulder the load so the rookies can find their way. i also want to see overall better ES and road play. the former will produce the latter.
i need the playoffs this year. |

re: Playoffs?
The metro is insanely good. It is going to be really tough to finish at least 5th in this division. Flyers weren't good against the metro last year either. It is a weird division in a lot of ways, because I think all the teams better than the Flyers got a little worse and all the teams not (or) as good as the Flyers got a little better.
There are a ton of big names still in the division, but a lot of youth as well. The Caps had to get younger (and aren't as deep), the Pens got weaker within their forwards (3rd line), Columbus has a lot rookies and they had a bunch of "overachievers" last year. Rangers got better on defense, but weaker without Stepan. Isles, Devils, Canes, Rangers, Blue Jackets, Capitals, and Flyers all have multiple rookies.
What I do know is this. There are a lot of reasons the Flyers should be a better team at 5v5 and on the PK. PP2 looked improved. Their save% and shooting% were embarrassing last year to the point where it is almost unthinkable to not expect it to be better. With everything else out of their control, they should be able to compete for a playoff spot. If nothing else, they are trending in the right direction. |
