Will seem a little weird if we move Flip at the TDL...at least I hope we move him for some extra picks.

I think a few guys will be moved at the deadline if they aren't in a playoff position:

Filppula: they will have to eat half the salary to move him to a contender, but he's the type of guy that contenders love to add to their bottom 6 forward group.

Manning: in his last year, so maybe someone parts with a 7th for some depth heading into the playoffs

Raffl: His cap hit is under 2.5 million and if he's having a good season, I could see some teams having interest

Simmonds: Some folks won't want to hear it, but if he's having his usual season, his trade value will likely never be higher. A contender would be getting a very good player for both the stretch run and the following season for a cap hit under 4 million. Hextall would be a fool to not at least listen to offers.

You never know...if we are out of the playoff race and a team dealing with injury/depth issues is looking for a cheap 3C, Filp would be a pretty good add with us retaining salary.

With all the debacle over Lindblom getting sent to the AHL, this thought came to my mind: what if management views Lindblom as a replacement for Simmonds down the line. No I'm not saying Lindblom is a 30 goal scorer with zero NHL games under his belt, but in the AHL he can polish that role or style of play in top minutes; both ES and PP. I know I don't have much more insight to expand but just a thought.

First 3 bye bye...
Simmonds We will add depth in picks and future hopes n dreams but dang we are pretty well stocked in hopes n dreams.
We can add those players via our regular draft spots and don't really need to have 10 or 11 picks every draft moving forward.
I want to see a guy like Simmonds here raising a cup and not back in LA or Vegas.

Very true, forgot to include that. I'm not sure what Lindblom's capabilities are on the PK, as mentioned zero NHL games still, but he is a two way player who showed defensive responsibitly in preseason. But who knows, was just a thought.

Goaltending doesn't matter yet, you need an elite goaltender to win the cup, but the Flyers are just trying to make the playoffs.

Joke of the Day:
Henrik Lundqvist, Ryan Miller, Cory Crawford, Cary Price, Peke Rinne, MA Fleury walk into a bar. The bartender yells "Hey, if you want to come in here you have to be an Elite goaltender AND have won the Stanley Cup!". They all turn around and walk out.

- Glak18

Do you?

Antti Neimi
Corey Crawford
MAF
JS Giguere
Martin Gerber
John Grahame

You need a goalie to get hot, hell, if Leighton didn't fall apart and play the way he did VS the Canadiens against the Blackhawks we could've finally gotten off the schneid. Goaltending is important, and 9 times out of 10 an elite goalie will do the trick, but its not a 100% thing, it is possible to win without a truly elite goalie.

HAHAH this is nice... Course I can't wait for Lehtera to hit the ice... I think he deserves his shot at our disdain.

- FlyersGrace

Hahahaha. I thought Lehtera would slot in nice as a replacement for VDV or PEB, but the way Leier played in the preseason, wow, kid has wheels and is a bulldog out there. Raffl and Laughton and him all seemed to play very well, im excited for that third line. If Weise sucks early on, I wouldnt mind seeing what Lehtera can do with Flip and Konecny though, could be an unsung third line. lehtera didnt put up terrible numbers two years ago with the blues after all

The top 5 candidates

1. Weise
The prize free agent of the 2016 class is leading the pack by solid margin to start the season

2. AMac
Overpaid and underappreciated, AMac is a perennial favorite in this contest and should never be counted out.

3. Claude "aka Fraud" Giroux
The Flyers captain was quite the whipping boy last year and as soon as he goes one game without scoring, all bets are off.

4. Sean Couturier
Anointed by many as nothing but a 3rd line center, Coots is being asked to step up to the top unit. The first time he flubs a shot, the torches and pitchforks will surely come out.

5. Brandon Manning
The nerve of the coaching staff to actually dress him in a game that counts. He could quickly be the sleeper in this poll.

couple bold predictions. well maybe not totally bold.

1) Giroux rebounds to score 23 G and add's 50 A for a 73 point season.

2) Ghost scores 15 and totals more then 50 points.

3) Patrick scores 18 G and has a 50 point rookie year...

4) Simmonds has a ho hum 30-30 season with 150pims

5) Lindblom is a Xmas call up never to see the A again. He manages to score 18 goals in half a season while taking his spot on the top pp unit and give Flyer the push they need to take the 7th seed.

6) 97 points seventh seed. Playoffs baby!!!

Looking forward to the opening of the season, the real shocker would be if I was still awake by the start of the 3rd period.

For all the doom and gloom around here, I'm very excited to see Patrick and at least one of the kids on D get their feet wet tonight and I'm also looking forward to following the progress of guys like Provorov, Konecny, Laughton, Weal, Leier and Ghost. I'm also intrigued to see how chemistry develops on the new top line.

Honestly, while I'd much rather see all 3 kids on D playing tonight and Lindblom in the lineup as well, I do think all the negativity we see around here is way overblown. Even if the Flyers won't call it by name, they are still rebuilding. All of the above mentioned kids will be here at some point this season and many more will follow in the next couple of years. They aren't ready to contend to by longshot right now and if they were, I'm pretty sure Hextall would have done a lot more to upgrade the goaltending.

I'm still willing to patient, I think that overall they are moving in the right direction and I believe they will be a strong contender by 19-20, and at least a solid playoff team by next season. While I don't see them getting in this season, I'll enjoy watching the kids and also having a pick in the first half of the first round in what looks to be a very good 2018 draft.

GO FLYERS!

- BiggE

I'm fine with Lindblom in the A. and I am even fine with Sanheim being sent back which I expect will happen once they are certain Ghost is fine...most likely after the western trip. But I won't be fine if Morin makes the team, which seems likely being they need 7 dmen, and he sits in favor of Manning. Manning should be the 7. guess we will find out shortly when the morning skate lines are released
