Carter Hart is out tonight with mono. Keep piling on the good news.

That explains it. At first they were saying flu but it lingered longer than the flu should.

It makes sense if you are rebuilding, giving a bigger role to young kids both at a similar position and elsewhere. It was not a move for the short term. We are worse without Schenn, for all his faults. But the value was fine.

But now they're trying to veteran their way into a bubble spot (despite that probably running counter to making the playoffs....the team is likely better with the kids even now). The core veterans just get older, so you're wasting their time. Kids aren't getting the experience. So why trade Schenn at that point? Why keep players like Simmonds and Flip (my opinion of him aside) and so on? I'm not sure what they are trying to do this year. It's all rather wishy washy.

Hopefully its not too bad. The older someone is when they get mono, the worse it usually is.

I got mono when I was 21. Luckily during the summer so it didn't mess with college. I'm 6'1" and dropped all the way to sub 150s. It took me 9 months to get back to my pre-mono weight.

Fun Fact: Almost everyone has mono. They usually get it before ~5 years old, so it just comes off as a regular cold.

The last two summers I could swear you were leading to parade for Schenn's trade?

Trading Schenn = great at the time

The subsequent moves by the team changes that.

Everyone knows I'm a Schenn supporter but even I'm willing to admit we need to let the season play out. Schenn is playing center head to head against Crosby and killing penalties.

What's even crazier, he looks great at it.

I would've traded Simmonds over Schenn too. They're identical in on ice value, but he's younger, will be cheaper in 2 years, and his trade value is/was lower. I see little chance they trade Simmonds now anyway.

No, I just try to counter some of the dislike everyone has for him. I appreciate the fact an undrafted guy worked hard to earn his chance in the NHL. He's what he is....a #6/#7 who does whatever he can to stay in the lineup with limited talent.

And no, I'm not Brandon Manning, although some of the folks on the Flyers Board at HF Boards thought I was for a while...lol. Some might still think I am.

Look, I want the Flyers to win every night no matter who they have in the lineup. Manning is playing tonight, but I fully expect him to be scratched most nights moving forward. He will be the #7 and play about 20-25 games in the Nick Schultz role from last year.

I wouldn't have made either guy available. It's too soon to have dumped a young guy like Schenn and Simmonds is still very much in his prime. Nobody needed to be traded.

What I wouldn't have done was traded Streit for Filppula, resigned Bellemare or Neuvirth. Scott Laughton is lucky Bellemare was taken.

They're trying to win. Why is that so hard to figure out? Every single NHL coaches first responsibility is to try and win.

I've wanted to trade him for a while now.

I'm fully expecting them to extend him 5+ years this summer instead of moving him

I'm gonna create an argument by using the example I see of Brayden Schenn's play tonight.

Schenn is playing head to head at center against Crosby, holding up well, has scored a goal and is killing penalties. This all seems to be with the vote of confidence of a veteran coach in Mike Eyo. None of these risks or support were coming from Hakstol with Schenn. It wasn't. It was all safe decisions all the time. No risk.

Playing the vets over the young and hungry kids, more safe decisions. Schenn wasn't the sole reason why this team was a bad even strength team last year.

That would just be awful wouldn't it? What would they be thinking?
