Can someone explain to me why starting 3 rookies is bad on the backend......but calling one up, who already showed he's ready, say mid-way through the season is OK? How is the situation changed? It's 3 rookies regardless. Then we still have Myers and Friedman who aren't far off. Is the idea of having 2 sophomores (say Hagg and Morin/Sanheim) and 2 rookies (Morin/Sanheim and Myers) next year unbearable as well?
- Mononoke

I can't. Everyone I know is frustrated about the D breaking camp whether it's the ambiguity of who actually made the team beyond Ghost's injury to their need to shelter the kids. Maybe they're right. We'll see.

It's just as frustrating up front. I like the deals Hextall has made but these last few moves have come with the baggage of acquired players who are taking up roster spots. I'm not as put off by Filpulla as I am Lehtera.

There's been a big turnover since camp broke last year and I'm pretty happy to watch this team even if they stumble over rookie mistakes. The last three years were bad. I could barely be bothered last season especially when I'd get the chance and Konecny was scratched and Ghost was struggling early in the season.

It would be really nice having another D man who makes everyone on the other team keep their head on a swivel, and one who can disrupt a play the way he can, and can just impose himself around his own net.

According to Vegas bookmakers, Edmonton has the 2nd best odds behind Pittsburgh to win the Cup.

So, I wouldn't necessarily say that picking Edmonton to win the Cup is going out on any far flung limb.

Picking Edmonton to not just be good, but be a Cup contender seems the trendy pundit thing these days.

Everyone gets this Assistant Captain thin, right? The players clearly see the online fan trends of bashing 47/24/22 and this was their attempt to back their teammate. Made me harken back to the days when 88 chimed in on his support of Terry Carkner.
- Brad Marsh Fan

Yea, that's it. The players are paying attention the internet and social media and are just looking counter that.

Did I just read that Filppula and MacDonald are the alternate captains?

One player who has no chance of being resigned and the other nobody wants on this team?

All good points and I wonder the same thing. I think you know why a coaching staff would have reservations about 3 rookie defenseman in the top 6. It's not just 3 rookie defenseman, it's that and a 2nd year defenseman and a 3rd year defenseman who struggled for large parts of last season and during pre season. If they call up a rookie mid way through the season, the other two have a half season of NHL experience under their belt.
I think your last point is really the reality though. They just need to deal with it and the growing pains that come with it because more are on the way.

Why be put off with Lehtera? They had to take him to make the Schenn deal and get the two first round picks. Injuries happen. Couturier always seems to miss time. The have center depth and Lehtera can step in and play when needed.

It's either gonna end up real good or real bad, because if Eichel ends up being what they expect/want him to be, he'll be a 12 mil player 4 years from now. But if not...that's a big contract
