Sean Couturier had a great night on a struggling pre season power play. He is not officially the Jon Sim of the PP.
- SuperSchennBros
WOW Jon Sim.
I liked Lyon's interview at the end of the game. Seems like a really good dude. Played a nice game.
Will Jake ever be able to carry the puck over the blueline and make something happen? I am always reminded of Charlie "Spazzway" Conway from Mighty Ducks when I see him with speed through the neutral zone... |

Here's hoping that Hextall stays true to his word and allows any rookies who have outplayed veterans onto the opening day roster.
Let's be completely honest here...There's a LOT of vets who've been outplayed by the rookies. Including MacD, Manning, Weiss, Read and Lehtera. Hell, even Ghost has to a certain extent.
But does Hextall REALLY want to pay a guy 5 mil to send him down to the minors? Let alone a few?
All he has to do is look at the Penguins. Speed kills in this league. And the rookies are the only ones who can provide that.
If this team is to be competitive with the Penguins, Lightning, Caps, Rangers or Toronto...you better have some speed in that lineup. - Hckygoalie31
I don't think salary and what a player makes will enter into Hextall's decision making in any way.

It probably doesn't have anywhere near the import it had a few years ago since the team is in pretty good cap shape.

No, I am being serious. Ghost is a good skater, a very good shot and works his tail off, but against most wingers when it is down low he is too small to do anything of use. Sanheim has similar skills but is much bigger and better defensively. Provorov reminds me of a Dennis Potvin/Ray Bourque/Drew Doughty type. Hägg is a solid 2 way guy (I like him paired with Provorov) Morin and Gudas are very physical defensemen who can provide some offense. MacDonald is ok in a certain role. He can’t cover up for a weak partner but with a good defensive partner he is an adequate 6th or 7th defensemen and Manning is a very good 7th defensemen! Ghosts size wouldn’t be a factor as a winger and they could still use his offensive skills and I think while he is not good defensively as a defensemen I see him being very effective defensive forward where he doesn’t need to be in front of the Flyers net or below the goal line.
A defensemen primary job is to play defense and Ghost is the 8th best of the guys still in camp at that. It is like having a pitcher who is a great hitter and great fielder but has one pitch and it is an 80mph fastball with no movement. Watch how many plays Ghost hits someone and doesn’t even slow them down...he never kills penalties and he can’t be out there against any teams first line and most teams 2nd lines...if he is it is basically a power play in the defensive zone for the opposition.
By the way, a troll? A die hard flyers fan since the 1984 season when I was 6 years old. Hardly a Flyers hater! - Flyersfan33
Bobby Orr was wasted as a defenseman, should have been a forward. |

Cap wise, it makes more sense to send a vet to the AHL than it does a player on his ELC. |

My tip to Nolan regarding fighting...you'd be better served if you stuck to what you're best at.
Exciting as it was to some, he took one too many hits to the melon for my liking, against Krejci, no less. In a meaningless game at the worst possible time, up 4-0.
For now and the the foreseeable future, stay on the ice. Skate. Get your legs back under you again. |

Bill I would be interested to know since you follow the Flyers so close. If you were to make a decision on opening night roster, who is there and who is not? |

And I think it would send a big message in the organization if Hextall is true to his word about rookies outplaying vets.
To me i think Hagg, Morin, Sanheim, Patrick and Lindblom all should be here.
I don't think MacDonald or Read have done enough to keep them.
Opening night lineup should be:
Giroux-Couturier-Voracek
Weal-Patrick-Simmonds
Lindblom-Filppula-Konecny
Lehtera/Weise/Leier - Laughton-Raffl
Extra: Two of Leier,Lehtera,Weise
Waived: Read
Provorov - Hagg
Sanheim - Gudas
Morin - Gostisbehere
7th Manning
Waived MacDonald

Being a good skater with a lot of offensive talent sounds like a really great skill set for a defenseman to have. - johndewar

I would normally agree and don't want the kid fighting. If it were a Bruin goon I would agree 100%. But it was Krejci, and it didn't seem like he was going to let up. So the kid got it out of the way and actually did pretty well.
Let em know he isn't going to roll over, especially against a guy like Krejci.

I get your point.
Me? I want him on the ice and not in the box for 5 minutes. Plus, too many things can go wrong during a fight, regardless who it is against. |

Just a thought.. There has been a lot of talked about Giroux on the wing, and Coots centering the line. I wonder if there are just getting ready for the day when Patrick is 1C centering Giroux and Jake. At which time Coots slides back into the #2 slot. It is too much pressure to put on the kid to start. He's clearly got skill. And, this day could be next year, or later this year if Patrick progress quickly. |
