What ever happened to just hitting someone else though? Stopping the game to fight someone after every hit is stupid, and it doesn't prevent a guy from getting hit in the first place. You think a guy is gonna pull up so he doesn't have to fight someone?
Don't tell me hitting one of their guys or scoring a goal against the guy that leveled your teammate wouldn't feel better or build cohesion, BUDDEH - YuenglingJagr
That's what I'm saying though, it's not about policing, it's about having your teammate's back.

It sounded as though you were in support of "having your teammate's back" even though it is an incredibly annoying part of today's game |

What's to get is it's typical exaggeration and grasping at straws to rip on Macdonald. He's been fine this pre season and if it were not for the 3 rookie defensemen earning their spots, I'd be fine with him in the top 6. |

It's not about fighting Morin because it was cheap (which it wasn't), it's about fighting for your teammate. You really think Farnham went after Morin in a fit of rage because of a cheap shot? You really think NHL players who have played this game for all but 3 years of their lives don't allow hitting anymore or understand what's dirty and what isn't?
If my teammate gets leveled, I'll jump in and fight the guy not because he threw a chicken wing elbow, but because he's my teammate and that's what I feel obliged to do.
I remember I got trucked, completely clean, and my buddy jumped in on the guy. I was fine, popped right up, but that's the poop that builds a cohesive team. You remember that and soon, you're not playing hockey with a bunch of hockey players, you're playing with your family, for lack of a better clichè. That's important to winning. - Giroux_Is_God

It doesn't annoy me as much as it annoys a lot of other people tbh. It doesn't happen after every hit, but it does after anyone gets blown up, and that's fine imo
Let's not lose sight of the fact that Farnham is doing that also because it's preseason and that's his role. In other words the fact that he's trying to make the team in the first place might have played a role in him going after Morin. |

I have to strongly disagree here. In my opinion, Patrick is absolutely NHL ready. His skating is not as strong as it will be once he gets in better game skating shape and gets stronger but his play away from the puck and his hockey sense is NHL caliber.
I also think you're wrong about Couturier. He can fill a 2nd line center role on a serious contender. - MJL
Like I said, I'm assuming Patrick will be on the opening night roster, and I agree he has shown good "hockey sense", whatever that means - a responsible two way player? OK. Good awareness on the ice. Fine.
He just hasn't been that noticeable, other than the fact that I try and focus on him when he's on the ice. Two assists doesn't get me too excited. I see the same potential everyone else does but I hope his lack of production is due to his lack of conditioning. I'm hoping he'll find that other step soon and we'll all be able to see what he's really capable of.
Hey, I'm in the kid's corner big time. But so far, I've seen only small glimpses.

The thing is "being ready" is virtually meaningless. I can imagine exceptions but not on this Flyers team. The kids all seem to be on the verge of winning roster spots on merit. They are better players than the guys they're competing against today.
- fls13
It's not meaningless. If they weren't NHL ready they wouldn't be able to play well enough to earn a spot. They were never going to gifted a spot based on pedigree.
Exactly. Filppula I really like. He filled a hole last year they were desperate to fill and the team played much better after he got here. They were hard up for quality forwards and still are to an extent.
- fls13
I agree. They had a need for a center at the time for the short term. They didn't know then that they were going to be able to draft Patrick or that they would acquire Lehtera. |

I think we've seen a different player. The player I've seen is not only ready to play in the NHL but I also think he's going to be an impact player in this league in a few years. I say that even knowing that he is not at full motor yet.

I agree it's pre season and Farnham is trying to earn a job but there was no real reason for a fight there. It was a clean hard hit within the flow of the game. That kind of nonsense needs to be cut out.

Exactly, the kid, coming off surgery, has now been playing competitive hockey for what? A week or 2? It's going to take time for his legs and core to regain full strength. Once he does, look out. The hockey sense and smarts are already there. The kid is going to be a stud. |

I think it is for the rookies the Flyers have right now. Tell me Rubtsov and Myers aren't ready. I can buy that. I'm watching the rookies left outplay the guys they have to beat for jobs now.
It doesn't look like Lehtera is going to find a Top 9 role. The centers for now are Coots/Patrick/Filppula/Laughton until further notice. I'm reasonably OK with that. Voracek needs to get going so I can see what that top line really looks like. I actually like the next two lines and the 4th line as well. They just need to finish more. I don't care who does it or how. |

I noticed that. Lehtera didn't exactly have Marchand either. |
