He is? He's only 24. i think now that the Flyers are starting to bring in more depth and skill you'll see him produce more.

Patrick Sharp didn't score 20 goals until 25 and then saw steady production.

So i don't think i am ready to say he is what he is.

- J35Bacher

Yes, he is what he is and isn't going to get THAT much better.

Right now, Couts is a player who scores at very good levels at ES, and has had two seasons where he would project to score 50 and 42 points in 82 games. Those are second line center numbers. Most of these points have come at ES. He’s projecting to score 40+ points at ES (in a full season) which puts him in the elite ES point production category. I just don’t know how many more points he’s going to score at ES than 40. Scoring that many ES points puts him in very good company. He’s shown the ability to be an elite ES player, and a very good PK player. Let him do what he’s good at.

I haven’t ruled him out of the PP, just yet either. His PP points totals were inclining steadily each year (with the exception of last season). But with the younger, more offensively talented kids coming up, it makes to put them in those positions and let Couts play where he’s good. That's why I put him on a short leash. It’s not a knock on Couts at all.

Also, the Sharp comparison is not a good one, as Sharp had about 110 games under his belt before his first 20 game season. It’s not about age, it’s about experience at the NHL level.

You mean the coach is scratching two guys who have a job to see two guys who are fighting for a job?

You basically have all the defenseman fighting for spots playing tonight, sans Gostisbehere.

Hagg, Morin, Sanheim, MacDonald and Manning.

- J35Bacher

If Hakstol really wants to throw a monkey-wrench into the works....He'll put MacD with Sanheim...

...see if he can swim with an anchor tied to his foot. Provy did it all last year.

If Hextall meant what he said about the younger players outplaying the older, then yes. Sanheim SHOULD be in this lineup without question.

And he's been playing better and better every game.

- Hckygoalie31

I agree, Sanheim should make the team on merit

but Ghost had a great pre-season a 2 years ago and got sent down.
Only got recalled because Streit was out.

Wish our #7 D was a veteran who was formerly s PP QB or offensive minded.
Not sure Manning/AMac should be teaching these kids. Timonen would be perfect.

How about Stalkers?

LOL...I kid. I've been reading these boards for a few years now...just never made a profile to add my $0.02

- Hckygoalie31

Let's hope you don't become as obnoxious as some of the former lurkers who finally jumped into the conversations.

First week: Hey guys! I'm new. Been reading your posts. You guys are great and I can't wait to share my thoughts. I love the Flyers.

After that: Let me tell you guys what you don't know about hockey... EVERYTHING!

You want a 7th defenseman to be solid defensively with the role that a 7th defenseman would likely play if put into the lineup.

I followed you like 2 weeks ago.

When you go into those dank areas, it's time for me to turn my car around and go home.

Manning was a guy who wasn't drafted and turned himself into a serviceable NHL defensman. Not your most talented but a gutsy guy.

I think you could do worse.

In regards to Gostisbehere 2 years ago wasn't he also coming off the ACL injury and that played a little bit in the decision because he missed time in his development

Totally agree. Your 7th d-man should (in the best case scenario) be a plug and forget type. I always thought if Lasse Kukkonen was just a bit bigger he would have been the perfect 6/7 d-man.

Yes. He had played less than 10 AHL games before the injury IIRC. So he got a hand full more in before coming up for good.

I also overheard two guys at the gym mentioning they posted pics of hot chicks on their IG just to get more followers.

I think that's crazy. I don't understand why people want random followers. It makes no sense to me.

You'd get no argument from me if we were a contender gearing up for a strong playoff push.
