So things I was reading about the game:

- 1st line started slow but then was a solid line by end of night. Had some great chances. missed net on a couple. Fired about 15 shots.

- 2nd PP was buzzing and looked better then first most of the night.

Couturier plays on both these? Were people lying?

If you keep saying it does it make it true?

Couturier has never been the 3rd line center. If your matching against the other teams top line then aren't you going to be on the ice more?

He's joking.

The Coots hate boggles my mind.

Per the coach, the Hartnell/Schenn spot is only open to lefties.
- Feanor

Shortsighted thinking IMO, but oh well. They really don't have a lefthanded forward that can fill that role effectively right now. I'd probably just go with 2 D on the first unit then and put Sanheim in that spot. The 2nd unit can then be:

Patrick
Konecny
Filppula
Lindblom
Provorov
-you can replace one of the forwards with a Dman late on the pp or late in games when leading.

I like to focus on the positives ie: that we can all agree that sanheim makes the team meaning we won't have to watch manning and amac can eat popcorn in the cote suite.

I was trying.

I am just trying to get correct unbiased answers.

Reports and things I read from last night said the top line started slow but was very solid by the end of the night. Created numerous chances. But per Hockeybuzzers Couturier was awful and 1st line sucked.

Read 2nd PP was buzzing and creating chances. Per hockeybuzzers Couturier sucks and should be taken off.

So just trying to figure out who is right.

I'm a huge Couturier fan, but I'll be the first to admit that his skill set is probably not best utilized on the powerplay. I want the guys on my pp units to either have an overpowering shot or loaded with creative offensive skill. Couturier doesn't really fit those criteria. It doesn't mean that he can't generate offense at ES, I think he can be very successful doing so when paired with offensively talented wingers. I just don't think that the powerplay is the best place to use him.

If he is going to lead your forwards in ES ice time, which he probably will and also be the first guy out on the PK which is also probable, he'll likely being playing 18 minutes or so a game without factoring in the pp. They have other guys that can play on that 2nd unit. Let Coots do what he does best. Play an excellent all around game at ES and be a beast on the PK.

I just go with Bill's write up. He put a link on this blog. Will give you a good idea of what happened. I've kept quiet because I didn't watch it either. Looking forward to tonight though.

Glad to see Sanheim shine.
Feel a bit hasty to say the kid didn't have "it" after rookie game.

I actually like the Rangers broadcast team. The Bruins and Pens broadcast teams make me want to bang my head against the wall.

Is the team going to lose every OT & SO this year? Seems like a trend. #negadelphia

Here is the thing.

How creative were players like Schenn and Hartnell?

I think people have this idea of what "they" see as a top line center or player Couturier should be but there is a reality of what he is.

He is positionally sound player, who wins board battles and can control the puck. he is a big body and gets to the net. And he does have a scoring touch when paired with skilled players.

Now i know Schenn and Hartnell were wingers. But Couturier paired with Voracek and Giroux, I can see a line that will produce.

I wouldn't say first line sucked and Couturier wasn't the problem. I just don't think Giroux looks comfortable on LW. Him and Jake still got their chances but they really had nothing to do with him on LW. I believe he was on the right side of the ice for both chances. I'm okay to keep the experiment going a little while longer but at some point they need to let Giroux settle in and prepare to bounce back. Hell, show me this next.

If I remember right, Steve Mears was supposed to be calling Pens games this year.

I have heard him do WJC games the past couple years and thought he was pretty good. He's a huge Pens geek though, so he may end up being the Pittsburgh version of Jack Edwards.

Unless they're changing their PP set up and formation it's not shortsighted. A RH shot just won't be able to be effective at that spot.

Schenn and Hartnell were'nt creative players, but both had much more effective one time shots than Couturier which can greatly benefit a powerplay. Again, I'm a huge fan of Couturier, I just don't think that his skill set is best utilized on the powerplay. It certainly doesn't mean that he's not a valuable player. In fact, right now, I would consider him to arguably be the most valuable forward on the team. I just would prefer to see others on the pp over him right now.
