He was good minus the turnover. And he got to play all game with Manning who was a disaster tonight.
- Mononoke

Manning wasn't a disaster at all. Sanheim was just okay. He wasn't bad but he didn't stand out either which is okay. Won't happen every game.

Tonight I thought Sanheim wanted the puck more and was lugging the puck more. If it's there for him, he can take it end to end, which is nice to see. He keeps his head up, he's a good passer.

I thought, save Gostisbehere who was pretty clean tonight, all the Dmen had some ragged spots. For the rookies, there might have been some yips playing in the big home building for the first time this year. Right now, I think the Top 3 of Provorov-Gostisbehere-Gudas are locked. After that, I like and want to continue to watch Sanheim and Morin in that order. Then it's three guys battling for the 6-7 spots.

Being one of "my boys" transcends race, gender, species, # of cells, which universe you belong to, even life itself. The only identity that matters is being one of my boys or not being one of my boys.

Sorry, I think Morin is a lock. He's been pretty solid...fought the puck a couple times along the boards but even when he does that he usually does it in a way where he minimizes the negative impact. He has been clearing the porch extremely well and he's a must have on the penalty kill. Haag has faded a bit so I think it's a battle between him and Sanheim for that last spot.

I agree with this.

Sanheim has areas he can work on, but he's shown enough to be in the NHL. His puck skills are well above average, as is his skating. He had a few minor faults last night, and wasn't spectacular, but still showcased his skill on a few plays.

I always have thought that if Sanheim doesn't make the team, it's not because he can't play in the NHL right now (because to be honest, I didn't know), but rather it was always a numbers game with Hextall. I don't know how comfortable he would be with 3 rookie d-man (assuming Hagg and Morin make the team) on the roster.

A lot of people overreacted to his terrible rookie game, and his very good preseason game two nights ago, although one should probably put more stock in the more structured preseason game.

I still think he goes to the AHL, not because I want him to, but because Hextall wants him to 'refine' his game. I wouldn't mind being wrong on that one tho.

It didn't bother me, to be honest.

What does bother me is that Weise is gifted a spot on the roster.

Anyway, whatever.

Watching the Rookie D-men, it makes every single game must watch! I know Sanheim's game isnt perfectly polish, as of yet, but that kid has an excellent hockey IQ.

I think this is one of the things that excites me most about the majority of the Flyers young guns and prospects, they have good to great hockey sense.

You see it in Sanheim, Patrick, Provorov, Vorobyev, Lindblom,Koneckny, Frost...

Agree with you on both Weise and the kids. If it was up to me, the opening night lineup would be:

Lindblom-Giroux-Voracek
Filppula-Couturier-Konecny
Weal-Patrick-Simmonds
Raffl-Laughton-Lehtera
Spares: Leier & Weise
Waived: Read

Provorov-Gudas or Hagg
Sanheim-Gudas or Hagg
Morin-Ghost
Spare, but 8th on the depth chart: Manning
Waived, but 7th on the depth chart: AMac

Observations:

- Laughton looks like he figured it out. Used his speed well defensively. Solid PK work.

- Thought top line played well. Couturier created some chances with a couple nice plays. Thought Voracek was fighting the puck a little.

- Patrick does everything well in a quiet fashion. not flashy. Just a solid pro.

- Thought MacDonald just looks like he doesn't belong. Even with the goal he just kind of looks odd out there with the talented youth.

- Thought morin was solid. Hagg was a his quiet self. Sanheim played well, had a tough turnover on the first goal but I also think Elliott didn't get out of the way quick enough.
