Wouldn't there be a huge buzz if Pens declined going to WH and players took a knee at games? Raise NHL profile for sure. Any rumors on that?!? - Nuck4U
here's a hawt take.
football is so boring and watered down it needs politics to add some buzz.
the nhl doesn't need government politics in the game. |

Just seeing how the Pittsburgh Philadelphia arguement went last blog - got to movies made in the cities?? Really??
I've never been to either so all I will say is that, Philadelphia your hockey team wears ORANGE guernseys - (frank)ing ORANGE!!
But The Boss' song about Philadelphia is pretty good so there's that. |

What about NBA & MLB who has done same? Portland not going to WH so shouldn't Pens do same?
Despite the boredom of games you refer to and don't disagree they still have better revenues and viewership then NHL. Actually went up with this new stance against the orange raghead. Wouldn't it help NHL too? |

idk. the nba and mlb are pretty boring too.
from what i read, nfl ratings seem slightly down.
do you want part of the nhl broadcast dedicated to talking about politicians? that would make me want to turn off the tv. |

Agree they are all boring. Just saying you would get more buzz and non fan exposure if the pre-game had 2 minutes of solidarity amongst other top pro leagues. Even more so since NHL is predominantly white makes more of a statement. Why Pens not going to WH would be bigger news then Portland not going. |

for every casual fan you may attract for the short term, you risk alienating 1 of your long-term fans.
there isn't solidarity on the method of protesting or if sports is even the best platform for bringing the issues being protested to light.

There is a long history of protesting in sports from Olympics to boxing. It's a part of the social fabric. It didn't stop fans from watching sport they love. But more eye balls who don't love that sport are drawn. The buzz effect.
Say if there was a knee down during anthem for a Leafs v Pens game you would walk away and not watch the game? That 2 minute pre-game time would be such an inconvenience to keep you from watching the rest of the 2hrs that you showed up for? |

Difference of opinion. I don't think this type of protest belongs in sports.
Now if ncaa football and basketball athletes started protesting against being treated like slave labour then i would get behind almost any form of non-violent protest. |

Iginla has slowed down soooooo much. And, not just his legs.....his hands are gone. Most teams would be hindered by signing him.
Plus, I understand that Jagr is going to cost more, but if you're interested in a right winger......he's the best available. |

It's actually getting bad though. Tons of Steelers fans turned off the game last week because they stayed in the tunnel for the anthem. The Steelers weren't even protesting....they just wanted to keep out of the political crap and play. Americans are being ignorant and hypocritical when it comes to these protests.
I had my aunt tell me that i shouldn't have a voice since I didn't serve in the military....which I actually tried to but got kicked out for lying about OCD issues (I was a kid). Nhl players protesting would cause a huge issue. |

Exactly. The problem isn't the protests themselves it's the way it's being done. Using their leagues as a platform is chicken sh**it and bush league. I could give a poop if crybabies like Kaepernick want to join the Black Panthers and protest the cops and gov't...but do it on your own bloody time and dime.
I would love to come to work everyday protesting our idiot Prime Minister and our equal idiot Premier and using my job as a platform to get my message out but guess what? I would be fired on the spot.
Everyone has the right to protest peacefully...but the way these crybaby athletes (and celebrities) are doing it is a clear reflection of their individual integrity. |

They are using the most effective way to do so... given the way the black community is still threated in the us, I can only agree and salute their gesture...

I would love to protest Trudeau at my place of employment in my uniform and using my municipality as a great way to get my message out...but I would be fired.
Why do they get to pull that behavior and I do not?
Maybe it's an integrity thing. I get the fact that Blacks feel threatened in the US...fair enough...But the blacks part are as much a part of the problem as the people treating them that way.
There are multiple ways to get the message out. Using their leagues as a platform isn't the way to do so. |
