I for one am very excited about Schmaltz. Long powerful stride and the hands/IQ. I think he really starts putting it together this year. He plays long too with his stick. Similar to Hossa. He is not the best defensively yet but you can see him disrupting plays on the backcheck and with is reach.

My concern is how he responds once teams take some runs at him and connect. You know that will come once he starts producing during the regular season. A potential good playmaking 2C for the Hawks should scare other WC teams.

It'll be interesting to see if Q ends up using Schmaltz at all on the PK as he's done a bit during the pre-season. That seems to be one of Q's go-to moves when he wants to push them more so they'll become more resilient. It may not happen because that 2nd line is potentially going to be used in a highly offensive manner, but he's done it a bit with players that may become centers (Teravainen, for example).

If Schmaltz really becomes a solid 2C this season, the Hawks are suddenly pretty deep down the middle. I'm not sold yet because Q has tried many experiments during the pre-season in the past that didn't last long when real games starts, but I'm most excited to see Schmaltz's progress this year than almost anymore else.

Agreed on Schmaltz. Although I am a bit more sold on Schmaltz sticking at 2C unless he really craps the bed. I think that off-season meeting may have changed Q's tune a bit. He seems, at least so far this preseason, a little more willing to live with young player mistakes. Even in post game interviews he seems to have eased off a bit.

And you last post was spot on. It should end the political discussion. Perfectly said.

I have always been high on Schmaltz after watching him dig out pucks and effectively get it up ice. Last season, for a young guy he was committing to back-checking more than most of the other rookies. I think he will be getting better and better as he physically matures here.

Well he is quite a big boy. He is almost the size two Debrincats so lots of value in that trade.

So tired of politics dominating media everywhere you turn.
This blog site was one of the few escapes I had interacting with the outside world.

Cops shooting whites isn't newsworthy these days. Also missing from these stats, were these perps armed or unarmed? Were these perps under the influence of anything? Etc.

Nevertheless, this isn't the platform for this discussion. Please go to Politicsbuzz.com or the several thousand sites alike for such discussions.

Those questions are all part of the database. The answers don't necessarily align with the accepted narrative. Posted it because most people have no idea about the real numbers because they are never broadcast or discussed.

I agree, lets keep it to Hockey discussions

If Toews is injured, a sophomore Nick Schmaltz suddenly becomes our default #1 center.
Nope. Lets keep out center depth this season. AA is a good insurance policy down the middle

Why are so many saying "here's my opinion, but we shouldn't be talking about this here, so let's stop" - after, of course, giving their opinion?

Jenner can play center. Jenner is 24/Anderson 23. AA is good, I agree but getting slower by the day and 29. Bouma is worthless and 27. Trade goes with Stan's narrative of younger/faster and both can lay the lumber.
