It's a tough situation for Matthews. Leafs have offensive depth few teams can match and it's this depth that will likely see Matthews get less ice time and opportunities than teams with less depth than the Leafs. While it's good he has talent around him that talent is spread among 4 lines. How many NHL teams will have a 20 goal scoring year old rookie on their 4th line potentially?

It’s not gonna happen, but just the possibility that the 4th line could be something like Kapanen/Leivo-Aaltonen-Brown shows how crazy the Leafs’ forward depth is.

Kinda hope the Leafs carry 2 extra forwards this year, so the can sub in those guys against teams that aren’t as physical.

So again, Schiefele moves up ahead of Matthews after one year that is comparable to Matthews.... But Matthews needs to have another year to move up the ladder.

Some guys have one year (in their 4th season) and move up and others and other guys have years comparable to that guy and yet aren't concidered to be as good as that guy until he has a second year?

Too early to say yet for sure - either way - different skill set, McDavid is faster, Matthews has great hand eye co-ordination. Need more data to make a fair comparison.
