he's Stamkos good, not Crosby, Malkin, McDavid good. Unless he was playing for my team, then I'd be like you guys - LeftCoaster
Crosby and McDavid are on their own level.
Matthews is on the next one, along with a few others. |

Going to the game tonight..... Gonna be slim pickings, looking forward to marner but after that it looks like it's probably 4th liners and ahlers. At least it looks like it'll Andersen in net (for some anyways) and gards and z and Rosen and carrick on the blueline |

When Stamkos is playing street hockey with his pals - he's always Auston Matthews. Unless he's in net - then he's Brodeur. - Woderwick
BS....he's always Mario Lemieux |

Matthews is an elite OVERALL player. Offensive star and good defensively. He is playing Center. He is often the first player back. He has ubber takeaways. etc.
Is Stamkos as responsible on defense? Is LUPUL 2.0 Stamkos even in the debate until he stays healthy? If Matthews has another great year, he is only behind Crosby as an all around player. Who else comes close? Obviously McJesus is better offensively, but not over 200 feet of ice? |

Laugh it up fur ball.
Outside of Crosby, name another player? 40 goals, take aways, 200 foot game, hands like silk, can't get the puck from him, only getting stronger
Jealous!
Go Sedans!!!! bahahahahahahaha |

Agreed.
However, Matthews is a better 2-way player then McDavid no? Honestly haven't watched McJesus much, but I don't think he is as strong defensively?
So if he is a better 200 foot player, then who besides Crosby is better then Matthews? |

Hey the kids a great young player, that much is certain, however, I don't even think he's a top 15 player in the league and you think there's an argument for him being the "best" player in the league already...come on |

Top 15 player? As far as I know Matthews is not a goalie or defensemen...
How about forwards/centers?
Crosby is 1.
Offensively McJesus is 1...
But in terms of all around forward, who is after Crosby? |

Not in the top 15? Baloney. He is already an elite goal scorer, 2nd in the league, 4 behind crosby in his rookie year playing on a rookie line, averaging only about 16 minutes a game. It is important to also note that 60 forwards - in the NHL last year had more ice time than Matthews - it matters! He can stick handle in an elevator and around entire teams. Not in the top 15 - up your ass lefty. |

Seriously? After 1 season he's the best overall player in the NHL? - Aussiepenguin
People are saying MCdavid is the best after two.
Mathews is up there, but he's not there yet. He could very well be top 5 by the end of the year/ |

Scheifele is currently better than Matthews IMO, but again, he's a great young player. Not taking anything away from him. I'm just not as in love with him as you are, but I understand your passion. |

Even with Genos injuries & nights off, Geno has a Con Smyth which means he's a pretty decent player - so I'd take Geno over Matthews. Until there is more to see, McD as well, then probably a few others that have been discussed elsewhere as well.
They say that because McD is so offensive minded & he usually has the puck, defence is in the form of attack. I'd take McD with his defensive deficiencies as well. |

There's more to being a great center than scoring a bunch of goals or Stamkos would've been considered the best center in the league a few years ago.
Look, I think the kids awesome, I've said so, I just don't think we've seen enough of him to declare he's the greatest thing on ice. |

if he has another great year, I'll change my opinion and move him up the ladder. He's one of the best young players in the league but there's some players who I think are better. 15 of them... |

A truly ridiculous comparison. Scheifele took two seasons in the minors to make the NHL, in his rookie season he managed 34 points, 13 goals in 63 games. We are comparing a Hyundai to Ferrari here.

Agree, although he did say he's currently better... Which I don't buy either. |
