A whole different issue which produces all of the revenue for the league.

It's great that more and more kids are playing. Doesn't really benefit the league all that much however when year after year the same teams struggle to sell tickets.

- hereticpride

Tickets aren't cheap.

And it's a shame, too, because hockey is one of the few sporting events that is WAY better in person than on TV.

Montreal has a ton of cap space and I believe looking for defense. Could you make something work with MacDonald there? Take back a contract like Shaw.

Colorado only has like 4 defenseman. Couldn't there be a deal there?

So many teams lack defensman. There has to be a way to make it work.

With all the youth coming would you attach a tweener type guy like leier who might get more of a chance somewhere else to make a deal work?

retain half the salary, Amac is a 5-6th D and 2.5 is eh ok

Laughton seems to be the forgotten guy on everyone's roster

I'm sending him back to LHV...I'm not carrying 14 forwards.

Patrick does little subtle things, a pass here (slick passes), win a puck there, you dont notice unless you are really looking. I think once he gets comfortable and in game shape, he is going to be very good. He plays a big mans game, he knows how to use his size.

I'm not.

He's my fourth line center. Plus he'll get claimed on waivers.

If he isn't in the cards for the Flyers i would almost prefer to look for a trade where you get back a prospect in same shoes who might need a change in scenery.

i don't think he clears waivers and i highly doubt they protected him just to be exposed to waivers. also they can roster 23 - 14-7-2 makes most sense

i really want to see them dress provorov, ghost, hagg, sanheim, morin in the same game for most of the remaining pre season games

They can't. The deadline for offering him a contract was yesterday. He is now draft eligible (for the final time) again in 2018.

Wow that's a bummer.
I thought we found another diamond in the rough in that kid...
Is there something more to the story of not signing him ie headcase, drug addict, womanizer?

He threatened the position of Dale "Lennie Small" Weise.

The growth of hockey in the US has been spectacular, actually. More and more American players are coming up and no longer just from Minnesota and the New England states. USA Hockey has created an international junior power house all the way up through the U20 level where Team USA could medal -- even gold -- in any given tournament.

Attendance and TV ratings for the NHL are a whole different issue.

- bmeltzer

Thank you Wayne Gretzky for the growth mentioned, his coming to LA really helped grow hockey in So Cal then the rest of the West.

I'll be curious to see if next time on the ice if Giroux is at wing. Still believe the best top 9 is with Giroux on the wing and Filppula as your 3rd center. Right now i think this is the best lineup based on camp and the few games.

Giroux - Couturier - Voracek
Weal - Patrick - Simmonds
Lindblom - Filppula - Konecny
Lehtara - Laughton - Raffl
(can flip Patrick and Filppula if you prefer)

Extra: Weise/Read

Provorov - Hagg
Sanheim - Gudas
Morin - Gostisbehere

7th: MacDonald/Manning(one waived)

Elliott
Neuvirth

I think this roster is a solid roster. yes there is youth but they have all shown to handle themselves so far. Will there be some bumps...yes, but i think this is an exciting lineup to watch and has some depth

Yes, and that part is great

It's the biggest issue, though. It's such a great game it shouldn't be lagging so far behind the NFL, NBA, and MLB in North America. If the league doesn't fix that there will be no money and/or nowhere for these up-and-comers to play.

Those other leagues ratings are big thanks to degenerate gamblers.
Those sports always generate gambling, hockey is not that popular to bet on.

i would sooner waive Amac. not because manning is better or the Amac hate because honestly he is fine on the 3rd pairing. his contract just sucks. i just think manning is more likely claimed for a team that needs depth . i rather not lose the d depth.

Would much rather trade some of the veteran forwards in the bottom 6 then send Laughton back down.

I would too.

Just for the fact that I think Manning can do better if just sitting for multiple games. MacDonald could be a help in the AHL with the youth down there.

I am not a MacDonald hater. just think our young guys have earned their spots. Which is what Hextall says. Youth has to push a veteran out to secure a spot. i think that happened.

Someone saw the Sherman rant about injury reports in the NFL

Yes the rating for those other leagues are driven by gambling.

Yes! In the same vein as sending AMAC down due to contract and mentoring for the Phantoms, I think the same role is there for Read. He could be a big help in getting guys there ready for top 9 roles...and if he is picked up on waivers, then great! Thanks for being a good soldier and best of luck with continuing your career.

I do not support getting rid of Raffl however. I think he is being severely undervalued by a lot of site members. Plus you can't teach 210+lbs

Maybe he'll be on the draft board for them. I thought he looked good, but I'm not a member of the Flyers nor am I a (self proclaimed) scout

That play, in my opinion, is all Jake's fault. It is 3 on 3 overtime. You turn the puck over , it turns into a scoring chance the other way.

Do gamblers actually watch the games?
