The Flyers are in very good shape for the future defensively. If Sanheim needs a little fine tuning, he's not very far away. No doubt he can play in the NHL now. - MJL
I was leery about him defensively but right now i think he has earned it. The fun thing to watch is all those guys can get the puck out of their own end. Either by making a good pass or even skating it out. |

Montreal has a ton of cap space and I believe looking for defense. Could you make something work with MacDonald there? Take back a contract like Shaw.
Colorado only has like 4 defenseman. Couldn't there be a deal there?
So many teams lack defensman. There has to be a way to make it work.
With all the youth coming would you attach a tweener type guy like leier who might get more of a chance somewhere else to make a deal work? - J35Bacher
The 3 years is really what makes moving AMac almost impossible unless they eat 40-50% of the deal. I think by next year's trade deadline, with only 1 year and change left, they will be able to work something out and maybe only have to retain 25-30% of the deal to make it work. I really don't want to take back contracts, the need to move him isn't that pressing. He's fine as the 7th man IMO. |

100% agree.....but I don't know if Hextall would go that route....young, hungry teams are great to watch....bang on about Toronto, they were a lot of fun to watch last year. - landros 2
There were. And they rewarded the GM and organization by making it into the playoffs.
I think the Flyers could do the same thing. |

Yeah.
I don't even know if I would keep him as a 7th.
I might just send him down. Keep Manning as my 7th because he could sit multiple games and not be a problem.
If MacDonald is playing at least there is a benefit that he could help some of the youth in LHV |

Only issue with sending AMac to LHV... Poor Phillipe Myers will get saddled with him.

Actually at AHL speed, AMac would be a great partner for Myers. At that level he is a solid top pair guy mainly due to his speed and, at the AHL, solid skills.

That'll work. I also have to wonder, with JayBo out for a while, if St. Louis would be in the market for a Dman. Obviously they aren't taking AMac's contract, but maybe they would part with a 7th for Manning. - BiggE
I don't really like the way CF lists dmen as LD or RD. I'd rather have them listed by what side they shoot. Anyway, with Bouwmeester out, they have:
Pietrangelo RHD
Parayko RHD
Funnarsson LHD
Bortuzzo RHD
Edmundsson LHD
Prosser RHD
And I believe the best D prospect is Schmaltz, who is also a RHD. So they do seem to need a leftie.

As many expect, Hagg and Morin seem good to go. Realistically, who seems likely to grab those forward spots? |

There is no doubt for sure that Morin is a lock for opening night. That reach reminds me of the old days in Sjell Samuelsson, except much more of a better skater.
Elliot looked very good last night and hope thats a sign of things to come.
The 5 on 5 seems to still be an issue even with what we iced for a team last night being mostly of players who will be regulars. If we can't score more goals 5 on 5, that PP needs to get a lot better then it looked last night. Still early.
Patrick looked ok, nothing flashy. But he seemed to look a bit gassed in this game after back to back nights of playing. Could be conditioning with all the time he has had off skates.
I want nothing to do with seeing Amac on this team as much as anyone, but you know that management want him out there and will be there. |

Its crazy to think how quickly Hextall has completely rebuilt this team, and did so without actually tanking.
Getting Patrick was obviously amazingly fortunate, but the rest has been outstanding work by Hexy and his team.
Theres a real shot that our offensive prospects in the next few years are about equal to our defensive prospects in terms of impact players.
And then in net we have 4 legit NHL prospects. Its absurd. |

Yup, I think the 2 kids along with Giroux, Voracek, Couturier, Simmonds, Konecny, Weal, Filppula and Raffl are locks to be in the opening night lineup. Lehtera has played well so far and is probably the leading candidate for the 11th spot. That leaves one spot in the forward lineup open. Right now, based on what I've seen so far, my order of preference for that final spot would be:
Laughton
Leier
Weise

Stone cold lead pipe locks
Lindbolm and Patrick
Morin and Hagg
I'd love to add Sanheim but that AMac/Manning issue has me hedging. |

I've been one of morins biggest critics. I have been impressed so far this year. He is really learning to use his size to his advantage. That reach gave the bruins fits last night. Through the two games I've watched he is more positionally aware than from what I saw in LHV last year. The flyers are actually kinder to their dman than the phantoms are for sure stylewise.
The biggest thing for him is the puck on his stick in his own end. Going to be seeing more nhl heavy lineups throughout the preseason. Less time and space for him. How does he handle the pressure? He needs to develop a couple moves to create his own time and space. But he has gotten much better already at using his massive frame as a puck shield |

Amac is untradeable throughout the entirety of his deal. Unless the flyers are forking over picks or taking on an equally awful deal. Look at the caliber of players on tryout contracts this summer. Cody franson on a tryout, etc. forget trading him no matter the salary retained |

With the way they seem to be calling games, he's a must on this roster. He brings an element to the PK with his strength and reach that we haven't had in a while.

Probably, though, depending on injuries to other teams, he could certainly be moved at the trade deadline during his final season. |

I guess its still possible they give him a contract. In reality if the Flyers cut him couldn't he move over to another team for try-out instead of going back to juniors? Maybe the Flyers have a deal in mind and are just waiting. - youarewrong
They can't. The deadline for offering him a contract was yesterday. He is now draft eligible (for the final time) again in 2018. |

He's gone from our nhl roster after this year at the worst. Whether they buy him out or just leave him on the phantoms playing out the deal is up to hexy. No team will want to trade for him in 3 years |
