I highlighted the important parts. I'm pretty sure Gaunce even scored in the preseason last year.

They have been good but they have been good against 4th liners and AHL/Junior players. Boeser is heads above the rest of the Canucks prospects. I do think unless someone who needs waivers plays as well as him, he deserves a spot. JV needs to keep scoring in the AHL.

So your going to put DD on waivers (most likely claimed) then when JV stops producing against NHL players. What do you do then?
- manvanfan

Never said put DD on waivers, just saying he JV has been more productive. It's not about JV producing, it's about working hard and playing sound defensively and playing to his strengths. As of right now, he has looked better then Goldy, Rodin, Megna, Chaput, Scotty Upshall, DD etc.....as of right now.

Then you have a bigger and faster version of Dorsett.

Why do you sometimes like to argue like (frank)U2. You take a position like you are right and everyone else is stupid or has no right to an opinion.

It's not a position of right and wrong. People have their flavor of the week and next thing you know they are the in the line up. All of a sudden they suck and they should have never made the team, they are mid level AHL quality.

Before the preseason 1/2 the people in here had Virtanen as a bust because of his numbers last season, wanted to trade him. Now because he has played a few preseason games well he deserves to take a spot from a guy who has earned it for almost 10 years.

Tons of people wanted Subban to play at the end of last season. Now during pre season he's getting games and I don't see anyone saying he should be making the team.

I've seen Philip Holm need to go back to Europe, waived to the AHL. Not good enough for the ECHL, back to Europe, then making the team.

I'm sorry but it's mind blowing. The same reason why the Sedin's haven't been bought out. They aren't as bad as some would make people believe.

It's a love or hate, it really has nothing to do with how they actually play, who they play against.

BTW JV has played really well and done a lot of little things as I mentioned the other day. Do I see the level of competition he is playing against, yes. Has he "earned it". Not if you ask me. He can go down and show that he can score regularly against the competition he couldn't last season.

Says someone who dismisses preseason play. Young kids looking to make the line-up only have preseason to show they deserve a chance at reg season play(unless management forces for PR reasons like JB with McCann and JV). Pre-season gets harder the longer it goes on and usually in the last 2 games of preseason teams ice most of their starting line-up. If BB and JV still show well during that time why send either down to AHL right away? Esp when there is technically room for them. As far as OJ goes, as I said if he shows will in the last 2 preseason games it would be worth giving him a few reg season games before sending him down, and if not make him a last cut giving him the whole preseason to play. You dismissed my entire post. If JV plays well against 4th liners, then technically that makes him a 4th liner. He is ready for another chance and Utica is still an option for him this season.

I don't think Kaynine suggested that. Though seems like a lot of DD types are on PTO's around the NHL. One example, Glass has same rep and is on PTO with Flames. So not sure what DD's value, with high $ contract, is right now.

Need for centers seems Burmistrov is safe. He's a PP option as well. But if JV and BB earn starting spots DD can be kept as extra forward rotated in as needed.

Thus, DD is not likely to get knocked from the roster unless management has more concerns on losing other wingers to waivers and the rookies earn the right to stay.

From watching this game. I would like to see a first PP unit of

Vanek (net presence) Gagner (high in the slot) Burmy (right wall) Baertschi (left wall) Hutton (point)

- manvanfan

And they shall hence forth be named the 'bargain bin unit'.

I don't dismiss preseason, I take preseason with a grain of salt. Young players can go to the AHL, if they can and show it there first.

JB has said the defence is pretty much set. Giving OJ regular season games means that someone on the D or F would have to clear waivers. There's a chance that person gets claimed. OJ doesn't workout after 9 games. Then you have lost not 1 but 2 players. Depth is all of a sudden less.

DD 4 out of 8 seasons scored more points then Glass scored in his best season. Burmistrov so far has looked good. He can play center or wing helps. Saw last season with Stecher that even if you play out of your mind in the preseason, you can still be sent down for a bit. Injuries are bound to happen.

Yes injuries are bound to happen and your concerns about waivers and depth are valid.

But not sure why you are equating career scoring rate for DD? You think that is why he has value over other players in determining starters or even roster decisions?

He's simply stating that as far as the waiver wire goes Dorset is more likely to get claimed and we need to engage in asset management or we could risk losing another Frankie Colorado ...sp

I agree with asset management.

You said players like DD (Glass) is on a PTO. DD is a better, younger player then Glass is and has ever been. Which is identified in the scoring rate. The fact that Glass at 33 is still getting a PTO shows that players like them, still have a place in the league.

Holm or Biega are likely the 8th D, Holm doesn't require waivers and Who cares if we lose Biega(unlikely)

VirtaneƱ has to learn to score at ahl level before he can play in nhl, we are not sure if it is Gaunce or Granlund out til November
And we need quality centres...oh yeah, we suckšŸ˜

I regarded DD for grit, fighting and PK why the PTO type comparisons of other vets. DD is now going on other side of 30 so he's closer to the Upshalls and Glass's in value it seems.

Maybe you see DD like a JV type as an offensive threat with power game.

Guess we'll see where the chips fall on roster decisions soon. I say DD is in for now.

In terms of pre season play and needing waivers. JV has outplayed Rodin but doesn't need waivers. Biega and Pedan also get to stay. Holm, McEneny go down. Boucher also gets waived. He's been given a pretty good opportunity and hasn't shown enough.

No, I didn't compare DD and JV at all. I compared DD to Glass the same as you did. I just showed you that DD is a better player then Glass.

DD in probably 3 years will be a PTO, if he is still playing.
