Oh, Sixie, you've triggered me.

Bure and Mogilny did one thing, and one thing only - they tried to score goals. They didn't give two poops about preventing goals.

This may sound like ole' Wedgie is ragging on them, but the truth is, that was exactly what they were taught to do.

Canadian hockey demands that wingers play a two-way game. We are the only hockey nation on earth that does this.

As a result, Canadians don't produce good wingers. We simply don't.

If you think I'm crazy, look at the last 40 years of HHOF inductees - I'd be willing to bet that 80% of the Canadian forwards elected were centres, not wingers.

Or look at any Team Canada lineup - most of our wingers are centres who we move over for the tournament.

Or we just have so many great and talented centers, that its difficult to leave them off the team.
Plus if injuries occur, you could easily move them from wing to center.

14 forwards on Team Canada for the 2016 World Cup.

12 centres.

Marchand on left wing.

Perry on right wing.

That doesn't strike you as odd?

But this is exactly what I am saying:

In Canada, we think of wingers as being less than centres. We want our wingers to play like centres, but we then put them to the side because we don't think they are as good, so they play in less impactful areas.

In other countries, they are different jobs. The winger plays the role of the winger.

Or put another way: do you really think that Bure or Ovechkin would be allowed to develop into Bure or Ovechkin if they grew up playing in the Canadian system?

No way in hell.

Your point has merit, actually two world juniors ago, Ray Ferraro was doing the commentary and made a similar comment, I think it was about the two Finns and their offensive game and how they develop differently from wingers in Canada. Basically raising the question, asking if it hinders some of their offensive game in the long run.

Think of all the great wingers of the past 25-30 years - the Mogilnys, the Jagrs, the Selannes, the LeClairs - it's hard to think of a lot of Canadians.

And when you do think of Canadians, most of them will be power forwards - guys who were deemed too big/slow-footed to be given the coveted centre position. So you've got your Shanahans, Heatleys, Nashes, etc.

About the only "screw it, I'm going to score" guy I can think of off the top of my head is Kariya. And that's just because they felt he was too small to play centre.

How many more Borg jokes do we have to hear before that gets old???

I think that Rosen will make the team. I am guessing that it will be something like:

Rielly-Hunwick 2.0
Gardiner- Zits
Rosen- Carrick/Borg?

will take some extra salary cap maneuvering to get one of them in. a big move to get both in.

i think it's dermott's job to lose at this point.

if borg or rosen is there, it likely means rychel is gone (in an odd salary cap twist).
