Certainly not an english major. Did it on the cell phone. Kept going back. Adding bits and pieces. Hope this is better? I'm sorry.

Nelson certainly struggles with consistency, no argument there. He's not a perfect player but I'm not sure why some fans think he was expected to be some sort of top line point producer. He was the last pick of the first round, that's not exactly where you go to find top-tier talent. I think his production has been commensurate with his draft position.

I'd like to see him distribute his points a bit more evenly, instead of being hot for stretches and then invisible for stretches, but at the end of the day he is a consistently-healthy guy that has scored 20 or more goals in each of the last three consecutive seasons. I'd like to see his point totals go up by about 10-or-so points, into the mid-50's, but it's not like the guy is some sort of anchor.

I didn't mean "his to lose" in the sense that he's has the spot locked up. I meant that Barzal will have to solidly outplay him to get the spot. All things being equal I think they go with Beau. Since Dougie hasn't call me for advice I'll have to wait and see.

Nelson has always had a terrific wrister, as he again demonstrated against the Rangers. It's the rest of his game that concerns me. Last season he was -6, 4th worst among Islander forwards, behind Ladd, Prince and Strome. His faceoff % was only 43.74%. He doesn't seem to win a lot of one on one battles for the puck. Ideally, we would have a better 2-way player as our 2C.

Edit: I also think it's irrelevant where he was drafted. If he were a 7th round pick, should we be so happy with him that we sign him to a lucrative long-term contract?

i agree with majority here. If Barzal has another game like he did sunday and Beau played like he did on Monday, Beau will be no question the odd man out Unless someone get hurt.

If Barzal makes this team it will be as a Center and Nelson could be playing third line. As Ladd Barzal Bailey was a nice combination.

Id be fine with Ladd Barzal Nelson too and have Bailey play 3rd line.

A few? I think most on here hated Frans, until he was gone that is
Always loved Frans, thought he was underrated, and we haven't replaced his minutes yet imho.
Trust me after posting that if I was, I would have had the pack all over my a55 on here
