I wouldn't worry too much about how the goalies perform in pre-season. It doesn't really mean (frank) all. Remember, Ortio, Hiller & Ramo all had like .920 + save percentages after pre-season (then they all poop the bed for the entire regular season).

I'm going to go with the old it's been happening every preseason for as long as they have been around ....I've seen more than enough goalies come in and shine in the pre season and then fall apart in the regular season and I've also seen legit NHL starters get shelled in the preseason and go on to have great seasons ...

It's the first real game action they've seen. Getting pucks in practice isn't the same as a game. Smith had a couple bad goals, it happens to the best of them. I'm not going to worry too much about a bad pre-season debut.

Yeah preseason is supposed to be for getting game legs & timing. Last year Elliott looked amazing in Preseason & Johnson had some horrible games & then Elliott crapped the bed on the opener. But I get that Oiler fans are pretty stoked this year, the window is opened the widest this year before fitting 12.5 mill into the cap. I am kind of really pulling for Strome to get the McDavid bump & put up 80 points because that will mean another $6.0-$7.0 mill to fit in next year or trade him for futures

It would be smart to limit CGY's superstar icetime tonight and let the kids play. As far as goalies, give it to Smith. If conditioning and age are the things CGY is most worried about with him, let him get in some practice against a team who probably won't fire too many pucks his way lol

I understand the goaltending will get better than Monday night but we're a little sensitive like the way you get after eating a big scoop of hot jalepenos on your nachos & having that shredded burning dump the next morning after your first cup of coffee.
