I could provide all sorts of data...but you'll just shoot back that all Comp is equal which I totally disagree with...1 guy plays the most 5v5 mins on his team vs all the #1 lines the other guy plays the 6th most 5v5 vs not the #1 lines.

Is there a site that shows how many minutes vs and how many minutes with linemates? Or did that disappear with stats.hockeyanalysis.com?

Given by point totals you've got (Larsson's opponents) 286 vs (Demers opponents) 299, I would assume that if we went down the list, you would see a trend where the players each of them played had around the same amount of points... thus making the Quality of Competition fairly even."

Where I was showing that QoC evens out over the course of a season. Demers top 5 forwards actually had more points throughout 82 games than Larsson's, but given out close the total was 299 vs. 286, I would consider that fairly even.

I don't like that site...what a pain in the ass to move around on it.

Anyways..I will never agree that a D that gets trotted out into his own zone to face the other teams best line all game every game will have the same stats as the guy trotted out into the other teams zone to play against the other lines. Maybe I watch too much TO since this argument has come up...but watching Rielly get thrown to the wolves by Babcock and then have people call him terrible compared to other D on the team who are used in a more offensive role and have never been used in the same way.

* Pretty sure the Devils #'s are worse after they picked up that defensive stud Taylor Hall and lost Larsson....GAA went up and shots against went up and now they are out looking for a Larsson type player.

Demers has been a better producer offensively up to this point, but once again, by NHL standards one of these guys is just entering what should be his best years while the other should be 3xiting their prime years. Based off the historic normal.

Take contracts into account, Edmonton is paying a guy going into his prime years 4.1667 million for the next 4 seasons. Phoenix is paying Demers 3.937 for the next 4 years to a player earning 4.5 to come out of his prime. Value may seem comparable now, but I think Edmonton will get more bang for their buck when we look back in 4 years time at those players past 4 seasons.

Ya I wanted to show a comparison of players at their age 24 season... where one showed a positive growth. I mean Demers hit 3 points in 21 games, and Larsson hit 19 in 79, and Larsson was +21 while Demers was -4.... but the plus minus stat is a complete joke. But they're comparable at their age/development level.

Demers was brought into Edmonton with Lucic to tour the new arena and was offered a contract. He didn't like what was offered and chose to accept the offer in florida. Everyone knew Edmonton was going to have to overpay for a quality defender. And they did. In the long run it has paid off for them.
