Tanner ripped Stepan for years with the Rangers
- jimbro83

I think you're mistaking Stepan for Girardi.

Tanner is the desert version of Garth. Rose coloured glasses. Stepan is not nor will ever be a #1 C

It's going to be a loooonnnnggggg year for the Panthers.... again.

They're a weird team that's hard to really get a grasp of where they are.

I think they could contend for a wild card spot if things go right for them.

Barkov is a stud but he's always injured.

It is true though. From years of only hiring ex-players and insiders to run their teams, the league has a situation where at least half of their general managers are actively terrible.

And believe me, there are so many people with cushy media jobs who won't even call this trade out for what it is - a steal - because Tallon is a hockey guy and Chayka is some outsider.

If you were a GM, would you consider salary cap issues as part of your decision making process?

Chayka has done well for sure, no arguing that. But your jealousy and saltiness towards the Oilers is just getting a bit ridiculous now is it not??
Try to just worry about your own team, they need as much support as possible.

I take back everything I said yesterday. You keep providing evidence of how bad the Oilers are and how poopty their management is and you have my vote for a job in the Nhl.

For me, it wasn't about specifically thinking that Chayka was good, it was about knowing how well an analytics and value-based approach would work against most NHL gms, who basically just make guesses based on their feelings.
- James_Tanner

There is a lot more to being GM than being good at stats. Chayka is proving that he has the other intangibles as well.

Wonder if he can use math to figure out an arena and how to get some asses in the seats.

It's basically a cap dump from the Panthers perspective and they get a serviceable depth forward. For Arizona, they get a pretty good Dman back. I see it as a win for the Coyotes.

I'm confident enough in this team that I would give up the Coyotes next two first round picks for Duchene along with Chayka giving Sakic 30 minutes of one on one advice: primarily being focused around Sakic getting a D man out of Vegas (I'm looking at you, Garrison)

This is abuse of a logical fallacy. I think rational people put aside their feelings and look at the data. The data says Demers is better. Maybe he isn't but you'd have to make an argument about it other than non rational people think so.

- James_Tanner

There is no data that says that one player is better than another. All data requires analysis.

He has done as very good job as a GM in rebuilding the Yotes. I wouldn't be surprised if his next move wasn't getting Jagr. A good fit for a young team on the rise.

As for the defence. Yes, a good lineup led by Ek, but in addition to those teams mentioned I would add that the Jets also now have a a very solid defensive core with Buff, Trouba, Morrissey, Enstrom, Myers, and Kulikov.

with mcginn out of the lineup, a spot just opened up on wing. i think jagr would be a good fit.

Fully agree this favors Yotes>Pathers.

Florida has had a puzzling offseason. I did not understand how they handled the vegas draft and not resigning Jagr. They should never have fired Gallant and after going 100% analytical they make a move like this for McGinn, likely to replace some scoring from losing JM, JJ and Smith.

Really don't get Florida.

Seems like Chayka is building the Coyotes in a similar manner to how Francis has been putting the Canes together, though Chayka has been a bit more aggressive about it.

James I agree to a point but you make your blogs one sided as hell, DeAngelo is a better than average prospect and very easily could turn into a Dan Boyle type of dman. He is gifted offensively, a right hand shot and the sky is the limit. Like you said Stepan is not a true #1 center and has injury problems, lousy skater and soft as butter who was not worth his salary. Raanta could be the real deal in this trade and I agree the Yotes won this trade. I think however down the road this trade will be much easier to say who won it. For example if Stepan gets hurt again and Raanta does not get it done and DeAngela turns into a Letang or Boyle then this blog is meaningless. Don't get the wrong idea, I like your blogs but just giving a different perspective.

James Tanner: Coyotes Utterly Destroy Panthers in Insanely Lopsided Trade
+ they retroactively make the Taylor Hall trade even worse!

- James_Tanner

Guess that means that Kyle Wood is definitely starting the year in Tucson. Gives him some more time to work on his skating. Looking forward to October 7th. See how this Roadrunners team looks with some new faces and new coaching staff.
