lots of euro players have trouble adapting to the small ice.
Coach cull hasnt looked to great thus far either, but its pre season and hes just filling in for green. Gallants team though looked far more ready to play.

Cull had a lousy roster & doesn't play.
A meaningless ex-game that only leads into real games. Nothing more.

even though he thinks he gets some slack some of those plays werent pretty. Not taking your man on a play isnt cool. Im wondering if theres a difference in play between nhl and euro teams. Over the decades its been said euro teams are low contact and not physical. I believe this primarily could be the difference. If so I can see why holm had difficulty tonight.

Bigger ice & u cannot run around looking for hits & take yourself out of the play. On the smaller ice Holm sucked period.

Because there is zero forecheck on the big ice.

This year the the TDL I would say to trade Vanek, Baerschi, Guddy. We already know the twins will likely re-sign for next year, hopefully for cheap though. Naturally there is always a chance there could be some good chemistry and Horvat could improve yet again, and Boeser could be a 30g guy(he certainly has the shot, positioning, etc for it) which could make us better. But i think other teams ahead of us improved more than we did.
- Retinalz

Id say BB makes us better for sure. He buries his chances, rare for a young player like that

I though he wasnt eligible. Salo in finland is best for him, he will get him ready.
- SMBDragon

I think he will be eligible for the AHL the following season. In the meantime, many people feel he will be better off under Salo's tutelage rather than going back to London. He is young enough for a year in Europe and then a season or two in Utica and still be a kid (21?) entering the NHL.

Was at the game, row 10 aisle seats in offensive corner. Fantastic vantage point

Some observations:

- This was an AHL game, a poor one at that.
- Bauchmann is a complete sieve, regardless of defense in front of him.
- Joulevi had a couple of "flashes of the future". He can go work on those in Finland and the AHL for a couple years though. Looked pedestrian several times on D.
- Subban didn't look too bad, has some wheels and scored a beauty goal.
- Early in the second period, I saw Schmegma and Chaput on the ice at the same time. I became severely nauseated. Turns out it was the "Carve Lumberjack" sandwich i bought with my shiny Ticket Member Food card (thanks Trevor). *(just kidding the food was actually very good)
- Archibald was all over the ice tonight and the 5 min for interference was a head scratcher considering the puck was off the glass and into the feet of Matteau when he nailed him. Reffing wasn't very good at all
- Boeser is the real deal. He looks calm and in control out there.
- #17 looked as disinterested as the previous #17. No way this guy makes the team.
- Virtanen looks good out there. He can play on my team. Is there room on this team?

With the exception of Boeser, I don't see any one else on the team opening day (sorry JV, Goldy). The "Let the Kids Play" advocates took it on the chin today. I'd rather see them all sent down and soak for a while and watch some rental hockey while they develop and maybe learn to play defense.

- Bowel-Auger

Thanks for that👍
You may be right about JV, I just don't see Canucks not wanting that speed and physicality in the lineup.
If he becomes an early call up, that is fine by me, as we can't expect too see a roster full of inexperience.

You can't afford it on your Walmart greeter salary. Unless your selling on the side.

Picked up 2 tix off stubhub for a grand total of $27 USD and went to the game this afternoon. Nothing better to do on a rainy Sunday. There were a ton of minor hockey teams there which was nice to see. I knew I wasn't getting to see an NHL roster for either team but I don't care, just want to see some of the kids play live.

We were sitting section 315 behind the goal where the canucks shoot twice. I was super impressed with the release and velocity of boeser's shot when he came down the wing to beat the goalie over the glove. I think an NHL goalie comes out to challenge him, but it was still the most impressive goal of the 13 scored.

I think that Jake Virtanen looked good against an AHL roster. He threw the body a bit, made a couple plays and it will be interesting to see how much he plays this year. I did see him on the wing quite a bit with Megna and Boeser but there were so many god damn penalties im not sure if any of that was at even strength.

Jordan Subban... The game is undeniably more interesting when he is on the ice. The very first shift of the game he carried the puck in deep and turned it over only to end up trapped behind the goal line with the play headed the other way. But a few shifts later he gets the feed from Boeser and blows past a defender to score a beaut. What I saw in Subban today was a phenomenal athlete who can skate and shoot and create chances as good or better than anyone else out there but he doesn't think the game at a high level. He doesn't know when to pass the puck. A couple of times he tried to carry it, one time he made the pass but was late (and the winger coughed it up right away) and another time he tried to blast a one-timer only to fall flat on his face. It's as if he makes up his mind what he's going to do but doesn't adjust for the opposition's reaction. He's like a boxer who just swings wild shots and doesn't realize the opponent can move their head and counter his punch. He has played hockey his whole life and it seems to me that if he excelled by being a better athlete than everyone else he's gonna have a hard time surviving in the NHL. I don't see a future all star, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get bounced around a few teams before he's done with the NHL (ala Nail Yakupov).

The only time I saw Goldobin was in the first period, he was sent out to kill a penalty and chased the puck around our zone til it wound up in the back of the net.

Rodin was invisible except for time he was wide open in the slot for a quality scoring opportunity and passed the puck into some skates.

Lind made a couple of nice moves with the puck but missed a wide open net in the third.

That Archibald hit at the blueline looked super dirty, but every basement team needs a Tom Sesito.

Despite giving up 4 or 5 goals I liked the way Demko owned the crease and squared up to shooters. There was something about the way he carried himself when he came into the game during the second period that makes me think he's not far away from being ready. Whether the canucks give him that opportunity or not at some point this season remains to be seen.

I don't see a downside, I just can't see it.

Who was the last player in the nhl to do that?

- thundachunk

that was my question.
i think we came up with Steve Staois as the closest comparison.
Not great company.
