"Yes. All GM's eventually get fired. All GM's will make some mistakes. How does a few bad contracts offset two Stanley Cups?"

Brown and Gaborik are far worse than "bad contracts," they are long term albatross contracts. Pro sports are all about "what have you done lately?"

What have the Kings done lately? Missed the playoffs in two of the last three years and lost in the first round in 2016.

Not only that, it can be argued that Lombardi is the NHL's worst at cap management: The former LA GM had massive deals on the books for Dustin Brown, Marian Gaborik, and Jonathan Quick, not to mention $10 million annually tied up in star forward Anze Kopitar, who’s coming off a down season.

The Kings have been terrible in recent years and have little hope of a turn around in the near future. Who's fault is that?

I hear you. All of your facts are correct.

That franchise still won 2 Cups under his leadership. That counts for something.

When contract gambles work out and they result in Cups, you get lauded.

When they don't, you get burnt.

Im guessing his point is that the Flyers hiring Lombardi has doomed them to a decade of mediocrity from which they will never recover. If that isn't his point of complaining about a minor front office hiring then I have no idea what his point is.

Ill hang up and listen....

All this being said, it's going to be Hextall handing out the contracts. I don't know what the capacity of Lombardi's responsibilities are, but he's not running this team. People need to stop acting like he's running this team.

I too was a little puzzled at the idea of bringing him on, thought it was a little out of left field. But you're just fabricating things if you think he's the one that's going to sign Simmonds to 8 yrs

This is really just Hextall helping out his boy and giving him a scouting/consulting gig.

I mean, it's really just part of the game and happens all the time.

Lot's of hyperbole here. He was so bad at managing the cap that he won 2 Stanley Cups as a GM. You're right it is about what have you done lately, which is why he was fired. It happens to all of them at some point.

I disagree that the Kings have little hope of a turn around. They're going to be a good team this season.

Here is one thing to know. GM's know it is a results business and if they don't get it done, they won't be around. They'll take the risk on some players to try and win. That's what they're hired for, to win. They'll all do it at some point. Hextall will also. The Kings are sitting with almost 7M in available cap space right now.

Quick question. If Giroux doesn't bounce back and play like a top player again, does that mean that it was a bad contract signing?

Lol nice bait.

I look forward to this club being fun again, and its for sure coming. I'm excited for the first time in years.

I'll be excited when Filppula and Read off the books and we can bring even more youth. After that I'll be excited when Lehtera, Weise and Mac are gone too for more youth and contention.

In the case of Detroit, I assure you nobody from here is overlooking and abundance of bad Cups because they won in 97, 98, 02 and 08. 2008 was a long time ago.
