He's certainly the type of player the Hawks need and that we talk about every season--which is big and physical--the bonus being that he looks like he has some skill that can be tapped into.

Yep. I think the Hawks are looking to eschew their no check philosophy. ... I thought Hayden looked solid in his brief stint last year and has obviously come to camp with serious purpose. Not sure if he can play left, but breaking into Top 9 right wing is a tall order (Panik, Kane, Hartman I'd guess). So initially he may go L4-RW, but if he can play Left Wing then possibilities are a bit more open. He's also a righty shot who has played center in the past so he could be a faceoff option at times too. Though I have no idea about that part of his game.

I don't care what line he plays on, I just hink it's good to have his frame on the ice.

In regards to Hartman...I'm hoping he bounces back from the end of last season.

He sort of disappeared towards the end and in the playoffs. He also reverted back to taking bad penalties through frustration, sloppy and selfish play.

The only thing I've read is that Kane was not going on the trip.

Edit: Here are the guys going.

Edit 2: Cleaner image. No 'big' names. Schmaltz, Hinostroza, Kempny, and Forsling are the only guys going who played regularly last season. No Debrincat.

Bouma is wearing Alain Daigle's old number 17! I'm excited.

I wonder how Motte is fitting in with the Jackets. I hope he can earn a full-time spot.

I hated to see Motte go, but he would have just been another forward in the team's glut of potentially NHL ready players. Instead we have a decent back-up goalie with loads of potential.

Man, I like Hartman, but you are right. He needs to come back with some real confidence after whatever that was in the playoffs. That said it is understandable when a guy is a rookie.

Didnt Hartman injure his hand in the Duck or King game end of last season?

Yes, professional scumbag and total POS Corey Perry slashed him on the wrist. Same game where Nick Ritchie sucker-punched Rozsival.

So this board doesn't seem to be to high on Franson. I haven't really seen him play or at least paid no attention to him if I did.

So I looked at some numbers on him from last year with the Sabres. Here's the basics that I found:

1101 TOI, CORSI - even strength CF% 50.4, CF% rel 4.3, dZS% 53.7, oZS% 46.3

Is it possible that all the ADB hype is to raise his value in Sakic's eyes
- vabeachbear

I think that was the first thing I thought when I heard that Q and company were praising his work...

The think s and Q said it he hasn't ahd much time off after the Memorial Cup and end of junior play, so the kid keeps challenging himself, and keeps taking on competitors without any lack of confidence or any down time away from playing, so he is honing that stocky Theo Fleury body and not backing off from showing he continues to keep his weight and stick on the correct side of each player & puck to cause un-earthings and showing he can just about score with fat reactions at any moment that little biscuit gets close.

If there as ever a time in the game where a Joe Sakic would take a flyer on a young diminutive junior star as a new option and one that is more "sexy" than a Ryan Murray, who even if he does improve to the level that was expected since his draft year, he is never gonna be a flashy offensive component that Aley-cat is...

(Did that just sound like I was hoping Sakic heard me?)

I seriously question if there is a great deal of hype. Those in the industry/scouts, GM's, for example, are not surprised and would probably tell you that ADB not garnering a fair amount of points at traverse City would have been surprising. All you have it a glorified version of rat hockey, with the best non pro's whom have lots of development remaining.

The eye test comes in how well he competes against larger players at a faster pace. His skill is real but how he shakes out against men in exhibitions and the AHL is the real storyline.

Playing with Kane and Schmaultz is fine and dandy but is more just to acclimate him to what it is like having such talented linemates. Playing in exhibition games is more about opening the kid's eyes to the defensive responsibilities and getting a feel for how gaps open and close faster. There are many on the board whom could go deeper into this and have a better working knowledge than myself of the transition from junior to NHL camp.

The so called hype is purely fan and media drive.

you don't think the Hawks FO uses the media to get their message out?

C'mon no one is that naive.

I dunno Greenie, if I throw that stone. I know from players that the league really has a bad taste in their opinion of Perry and I choose to hate him to, BUT...Hartman is no choir boy.
I wasn't too pleased when he cheap shot Craig Smith close to the end of one of the games away from the play. Smith ended up playing in less than a dozen games and didn't finish the Hawk series.

I just thought it wasnt right, understand the game, the emotion, and the idea of collision to thwart and provide space, but Hartsy used the lumber and the board wall to put the cherry on the top of his late hit...
...so I have no empathy when it happens "back-to-them."

TvR looked good in his first action in a Canes uniform last night.

He and Fleury combined for

2 assists, +3, 4 shots, 1 hit, 6 blocked shots and one giveaway while playing 7:26 shorthanded.

Sabres went 0-6 on the PP against them, including getting 0 shots during a 4 minute PP.

Guys at the pivot you maybe didn't think would see action there, and Highmore has already been typecast as a future wing prospect, and I guess that first line gets us back on the thread's ORIGINAL topic:
Flipper on wing?
This tells me that if Dauphin doesn't show he is both an NHL centre and NHL winger he gets time to develop in Rockford...
or can we say the same about Highmore?, that two positions gets you tick...?

I can take, or leave Adam Proteau, but I was surprised as how poorly he thought the Hurricanes would do in the East...

Understood, Wiz. When one plays on the edge, don't be surprised if others take liberties.

That being said, Perry is a turd who would cheap-shot Lady Byng herself, and any time I get a chance to dump on him, I will!

Anybody else watch the preseason games so far? It's been pretty hard watching the penalty parades. I don't watch hockey to see special teams 70 percent of the time. It's going to be a long boring season if they keep this up. Tonight alone there have been 4 face off violation penalties.
- vandymeer23

The new faceoff rule is going to be interesting for pretty much every guy who is really good at faceoffs, including Toews. They all cheat by gliding forward and rarely are square up. Couture was right away that two years ago, they all cheat.

And from last nights Leafs-Sens game, there was at least one time when both guys were committing the penalty but only the guy moving was called. It's going to be a poop show to start but hopefully players will get it figured out.

It's nice to see Dauphin ("Flipper") on the top line, hopefully he get the opportunity to show what he can do. Kampf and Hayden will be interesting to watch too.
