Sakic would want Skeij or Lias as starters, no conversation unless one of those are included I can almost guarentee. - B2B76
Pretty much. I think it would have to be Skjei from everything reported. Sakic wants a top pairing LHD. |

When has Sakic won a trade? He'll probably end up getting ran on this Duchene trade too |

I was not implying that Holden would be used to get us Duchene, I dont even want Duchene and all the drama that would go into lockerroom with his arrival. The only center I want from Avs would be McKinnon and this board would blow up if they saw what we would have to give up to get him.
I just think we have surplus of defense and Colorado has deficit so we could be natural partners in trade, whether it be draftpicks or lesser players.......... |

While I would love MacKinnon, that ain't happening. He is pretty much untouchable for Col. I would take Duchene in a heart beat if the price was right. Duchene,Zib, Hayes looks a hell of a lot nicer than, Zib, Hayes,?,? |

Well the price would either be Staal, Skjei and 1st or Staal, Day, Andersson/Chytil and 1st. I'd prefer to part the 2nd option compared to the first. |

Av's words on Skjei were a means to drive him in camp to the next level overall, & become a future number one unit pairing. If thought of any lower, they would have met Winnipeg's demand last season to include him as part of a trade for the RH shooting Trouba, or thereafter prior to being able to sign Shatty.
When greater offense is needed from the back line, Skjei will be paired with Shatty, as opposed to Smith being paired with McDonagh, especially penalty killing wise, when the best defense is urgent. But the goal is having Mcdonagh's overall minutes reduced by a few per game, in order to keep him fresher throughout the season, & for a long postseason run, of which Skjei will have a great say in both.
AV 's words on Hank's starts cause concern. First with Hank possibly dictating that number "game by game", in contrast to the recent past, & off season plan to make 3/4 of the starts. How much "younger looking", or better physically fit he arrived in camp is no guarantee of lasting 70 starts instead, plus an extended postseason run successfully. It also puts Pavelec at a disadvantage in his mental preparation as to when he will suddenly start, as well as always having to be ready physically anyway. The second is their "hope", yet uncertainty despite Allaire here, on Pavelec for now, until proven otherwise. His play may be the ultimate key in the end if they even reach the postseason, when 102 points in 2016/17, following a preceding season's 101 points, only earned them in entry respectively, the 2nd, and 1st Wild Card spots in a very tough, Eastern Conference. |

You can't play a 35 year old goalie 70+ games. If they do, Lundqvist will have nothing left come time for the playoffs. If the Rangers get that far.

It was 100% the less dead cap. Good reason to pick G over S too.
I also think there is still a little glimmer of hope Staal rebounds a little. I think G is legit done. - rangerdanger94
It could have also been due to Staal being 3 years younger, which I negate by the serious types of injuries he has suffered in recent seasons, (concussions, and vision related), as opposed to Girardi's.
But if the dead cap space was the issue, it must have been due to the NET $3.9M higher overall to buy out Staal vs. Girardi for their respective full buyout cap hit periods, with Staal's being for an additional 2 years (8 years to G's 6 years). It would have been in 4 seasons when Staal's combined NET current buyout charge would first total higher than Girardi's by a combined $388,888 in net total.
However, for these next 3 seasons, the cap hit on Girardi is actually about $500,000 higher per season than what Staal's would have been prior to July 1st. Hank will also be 38 in 3 years by regular season's end, under his so called "window" time to win remaining opened. It would not have been until the 4th year, when Staal's buyout cap hits would have become higher than Girardi's on an ANNUAL basis.
So cap wise, the Rangers did not take advantage by that buyout choice UNDER Hank's window to win, if the dead cap space was the issue with Hank still around. |

Obviously. That's the reason why I wrote that, and have mentioned the backup position as their biggest worry. Including coming into games to replace Hank, Raanta appeared in 30 games with a 16 - 8 - 2 record, on top of Hellberg's 1 - 0 - 0 record. |
