I'd want something more back from the Avs like a 3rd roudner or B level prospect. But I might too. Would hurt to lose Day. Because he might be good. But he might also be a skating paper weight, so idk.

Duchene would be the ideal center on this team. He's really talented and fast as hell.

it ain't happening without including Brady Skjei

and, I am dead set against trading Skjei's entire career for a guy we may only get two years

Draw a line in the sand with Sakic. Skjei is a deal breaker.

#NYR GM Jeff Gorton said he's still open to making a deal, but it's tough to get a center. Right now, he wants Hayes & Zibanejad to step up.

Good thing about having McDonagh & Skjei on the left side is we could pretty much trade any other lefty defenceman and it wont hurt at all. Although Staal has negative value, so it would have to be Day, etc.

Trust me, I wanted to give G another year and buyout Staal. Not sure what the thinking was other than less dead cap.

It was 100% the less dead cap. Good reason to pick G over S too.

I also think there is still a little glimmer of hope Staal rebounds a little. I think G is legit done.

Based on last year alone, I take G 10 out of 10 times over Staal.

Give G's head to Staal's body....we would have one hell of a hockey player

I'd rather give Staals head to G's body. Staal makes Tom look like an olympic power lifter.

But then you are dealing with a player who can't see, has concussion issues and lower body is like a war zone

Yeah, but the opposite is we have a guy who can see and has a strong head with the body strength of over cooked linguine.

Not unless Staal goes on LIRR. That's how Chicago is gaining cap space and getting out of Hossa recapture penalty.
- tomburton99

Exactly! How else do we get out of Staal's contract?
Well, besides taking out the other eye.
