Senator fans are unwlecomed here, blame your (frank) boy leader AlfieSalad for that - DDM-Coga
We have the same problem. A GM who is afraid to make big moves. We'll have a big problem signing Karlsson next year I think |

Problem is that Sakic is asking way to much - Maverick1818
Maybe the problem is that Sakic doesn't get a good offer to move Duchene. Nobody really knows what it has been offered to him so far. I don't understand all the bad talks on Sakic. |

so the demand for Duchene is low if the offers are not good. |

No, they did that with ROR and are mocked every day since then. The deal needs to be done but I wont fault sakic to the point of calling for his head that he actually is holding out for fair value for his player and not bending to public opinion and pressure from Arm Chair GMs - DDM-Coga
taking freakerenko back was a mistake, but the return for ROR seems fine and a typical quality for quantity trade.
it's not that he won't take back fair value. a package of quality picks/prospects should be fair return.
with losing stastny, ROR and now likely duchene, it seems like they should be looking for mini-rebuild.

If you have a player out there and nobody will give you what your asking price is, then odds are pretty good that you are over-valuing your player. |

Grigs was for Roy, Sabres threw him in...yet there has been so many articles from guys saying he was the main piece in the trade...frustrating for Avs fans to see that stuff.
Stastny sucks the most, but cant fault him for taking 7m over the avs 6.6m offer. Cant match or over pay him to keep him at the time.
They dont need to tear it down, thats why they dont want a full futures package and wait 5 years to see the impact of it like they will have to do with the ROR trade.
Lots of young pieces 22 and under right now. If they can fill in a couple key spots of already semi established NHL players in a duchene deal, they will be ok. A full rebuild would suck bc its saying that MacKinnon, Rants, Zads, Jost, arent enough to build around...which isnt true |

it took the Oilers over a year to get an Adam Larsson level Dman and it cost them Hall. Look at Drouin situation with the Lightning, that was a year and a half long saga of a player not reporting to playing to finally getting his wish being traded
Maybe just maybe making trades in the NHL of that value isnt as easy as we all waste too much time on the internet talking about |

When Sakic was put in charge of player personnel, this was the roster the Avalanche had:
https://www.hockey-refere...e.com/teams/COL/2013.html
There's been a lot of turnover, but the team today sure doesn't look poised to be much better than that one was this season.
They were great his first year in charge, then okay, then .500, then historically bad. This season? Probably a .400 team again. |

Sakic wasnt offically GM until 2014
That roster and what was locked in was the fault of Patrick Roy who was acting as GM during the 1st season of their Era. The Reto Berra, Brad Stuart, Max Talbot, Briere trades. Long term extentions to Nick Holden, Stuart, Mitchell, Cody McLeod...all Roy influenced, he had the power...then when Sakic was promoted to GM thats when the tention and split bw them started.
This is what Av fans get annoyed with too. Sakic gets all the blame no matter what, evern when he wasnt doing the job its still his fault |

I was under the impression that it was kind of hard to tell who was in charge of what, given that Sakic was in charge of Player Personnel...
I mean, this is from that article you linked...
Last season, despite not having the title of GM, Sakic still had final say on hockey personnel decision, as Adrian Dater of the Denver Post pointed out Friday .

He actually has done a decent job the past 8 months despite this however its too easy for people to keep on saying this same narrative instead of looking at what they are trying to do going fwd with this teams roster and prospect pipeline |

In position uyes he did have final say but there is other quotes...i dont want to have to search it to prove my point but Sakic said he relied on Roy a lot for his guidance bc he had more experience in hockey ops.
Roy influenced, Sakic approved but lets be serious, it wasnt Joes idea to trade and sign all these french canadian vets and draft from the QMJHL almost exclusively in the early years. Roy heavily locked this franchise into his own ego bc he thought he was on the right track after their lucky 1st season. They bought into the Roy Coach hype and got burned
Roy has a lot of blame to go with this teams issues today but hey he quit bc he didnt get his way either but its Joes fault that everythign this team has to deal with. |

Is there a possibility that Duchene and Sakic can work it out? If the offers are good right now, call Duchene into the office and say "Hey, we want you to stay in Colorado. Let's have a heck of a year with no pressures and let's see what happens. Loosen up out there and have fun." |
