AH YES THERE IT IS.

Can't wait until he's traded to hear about how much everyone hated him and how he slept with everyone's girlfriends/wives.

- BINGO!

Lets not get crazy heres, but imagine Eris Staal said some of the stuff he said knowing he was eventually going to get traded.

Thats bullpoop and you know it

Travis Hamonic and a pick isnt a good hockey trade. Its heres a Dman that hasnt played a full season in the NHL bc of Injuries thats older than Duchene and a draft pick. How does that help them long term. Cross their fingers they draft a PK SUbban with the pick?

- DDM-Coga

idk man.

you're not getting a proven dmen with term. 1 for 1ish, it has to be a similar age dman with similar term.

if that doesn't turn your crank, its the standard pick, prospect and meh player deal for a guy with 2 years left.

I don't know it. I do know that Francis had discussions about him at the draft, and fully intended to move multiple draft picks, but decided that what Sakic was asking for in return was unreasonable.

I was fine with Ryan Ellis if it came down to that or De Haan...but Hamonic. Hell no.

Thats my point. Sakic said he was looking for 25 and under Dmen in age, prefered LHS for DUchene.

GMs call...hes a 27 year old RHS Dman...Heres draft picks bc we dont want to give up roster players.

Is Sakic really that crazy for saying hey guys no one is offering the 1st and only piece we are really looking for here. If you want Duchene thats the value, if not then dont call. He wasnt calling teams and that has been reported from lots of writers too, hes not actively shopping and calling teams about Duchene, but listening to offers based on what he has laid out to entertain talks

But only if they actually kept Hamonic (although Sakic probably would have).

Would you have been ok with the trade if it had been for Hamonic + 1st, with Hamonic then getting traded to the Flames for the same return he got? In other words, two 1sts and two 2nds for Duchene? No guarantees with that haul, but assuming the NYI 1st was from 2017 (instead of being traded to Vegas), that would've meant the Avs probably taking one of Brannstrom/Valimaki/Liljegren/Vaakaneinen.

That still does nothing for them. Moving Duchene for non guaranteed value (based on 2018 draft order) of draft picks. Selling off duchene is not the answer long term

No 2017 picks would have been available from the Islanders, they had their own protection mess to deal with..

Moving 3-4 draft picks for Duchene wold be a complete disaster, this team gets trolled enough about ROR for 4 pieces in Compher, Zads, AJ Greer, and Grigorenko. Imagine 3-3 draft pick risk...yuck

Eric Staal was the captain of the team for nearly a decade. He spent most of that time dragging around the bloated corpse of a team that was the Hurricanes and many Canes fans STILL hold an irrational dislike for him.

I understand being unhappy with the player because what he has said and done has hurt his value and, consequentially, the return the Avalanche can get for him.

But you have to also be unhappy with the way this has played out from management too. This has been way too public from the start and Sakic shouldn't have said anything at all to Matt until he knew he had something brewing to legitimately trade him.

You cannot leave a guy dangling out in the public like that and not expect it to hurt his performance or the performance of the team. It's insane and terrible management.

Peter Karmanos is a terrible owner, but there's absolutely no way he would allow this sort of thing to happen on his team.

Then why tell Duchene at all? Why be so public about it? What the (frank) did he think was going to happen?

If that's the criteria, then I guess I just don't see a deal with any team. Teams don't trade 20-22 year old defensemen who are already top 4 players or who look like sure-thing future top pair guys unless they're getting a long-term solution to one of their problems in return, i.e. Johansen for Jones or Sergachev for Drouin.

I think a deal around Carlsson + 1st + something else from Columbus sounds fine, but Carlsson + Bjorkstrand sounds ambitious.

He hasnt said crap to the media, hes not out there talking about it yet all the TSN guys are getting all this info. If the media asks him anything he deflects the question to make it less specific about Duchene.

Example, where are you in the duchene trade talks....im always listening to ways to improve this team but im not openly shopping one player or the other.

His agent Brisson is feeding the media bunch of crap as well. Thats what Agents do so its not shocking.

I get that Sakic isnt a GM master but people act like hes clueless and the whole management group is a bunch of monkeys (frank)ing footballs which is annoying as crap to hear 100 times a day from a 100 different experts.

You can fault sakic on a bunch of things but Matt Duchene having hurt feelings bc hes doing his job...thats just business...but bc Duchene is a loveable Team Canada boy and chances are his agent is feeding media guys inside info, somehow Sakic is the idiot this time? I dont buy it

Duchene 8 years with the Avs and one of the all time greats in the org but to say he quit on the team last year bc the trade rumours and losing got to him...and he just wants to move on....sorry buddy you dont get a free pass and hat tip from the fans like no hard feelings.

This whole Sakic shouldnt have said anything thing is BS...its the NHL, teams, agents, GMs, assitant GMs all talk. And some like to leak stuff to the media to push public pressure on teams. There is a 0% chance that Duchene wouldnt have known that Sakic has made him available to trade talks.

however it got here, it's turning into a gong show.

We dont know what offers if any were at the draft. But from the sounds of it teams were offering packages for a 40 point matt Duchene vs 7 other seasons of Duchene.

You do not move him bc "you feel pressure" to do so.

No, you do it because it's the right thing to do for the player and for your organization so you don't have this poopstorm carrying over into another season.

Problem is that Sakic is asking way to much and the more time goes on, the more his stock goes down. Unless he comes out and gets on a crazy scoring pace. Sakic is just going to suck it up and move him asap

I think Carolina can pull it off as they are overloaded with talents on defense and are definitely starving for a quality center.

No, they did that with ROR and are mocked every day since then. The deal needs to be done but I wont fault sakic to the point of calling for his head that he actually is holding out for fair value for his player and not bending to public opinion and pressure from Arm Chair GMs

People can have it both ways. Mocking him for holding out for the right deal on one trade and mocking him for taking the best deal available at the draft.

Its either or, not both

If Duchene is playing for them when the season starts, this has all gone horribly sideways.
