i count 5 established defencemen who can play a regular role: Weber, Petry, Benn, Alzner, Schlemko. unless that Russian guy proves to be a revelation, there is a massive door for a rookie to walz through on D. if any of them are NHL-ready they have a shot at a roster spot.

Jerabek has a clause in his contract that allows him to return to Europe if he doesn't get a spot with the Canadiens. That may play a role in the team’s personnel decisions before the season starts on October 5.
