it was 2 billion doallar proposal on contamidated land....never mind that the logistics of it such as teh sun alta C-train stop would be undersized to handle that existing volume and would require a new platform to be built and the realignment of bow trail and crowchild.

Ken King and Murray Edwards faked that whole proposal, I know the Architecture firm who did that. They threw that together for them, thats why the Renders looked like a 8th grader made them

Exactly, KK/Edwards wasted 2 years on a proposal that was a dud from the onset. Apparently, they have agreement on $550 arena which is where this should have been 2 years ago. The funding is where it's apparently fallen apart, but IMO, nothing more than the Flames trying to get Nenshi out of office....Based on what Nenshi said, I think It'll backfire and will actually help Nenshi. KK is a fool.

The owners are currently shaking down the City for what, $1.2 billion?

Except it's actually more than that on the books, because the City of Calgary owns the Saddledome, so a new arena would greatly diminish the value of a City asset.

Vegas paid $500 million for a new team.

The City of Calgary would be much better off waving goodbye to the Flames (stupid, leftover name) and getting an expansion team, which they would own and operate out of their building.

Hell, it would still leave a pile of money to spruce up the old barn a little.

If the Flames relocated to Seattle, there would be at least a half-dozen teams who would want to relocate to Calgary.
