Todd Cordell: On Severson, Moore, Butcher, and moving the puck - Todd.Cordell
Well written. There's not much love of Moore on this site, but I feel he's just been placed in a position that doesn't fit his style of play. On most teams he would be a bottom pairing guy, but certainly belongs in the NHL. I just wish we could reduce Lovejoy's TOI. Maybe Mueller or Butcher can help with that. I'm already excited to see the trade deadline, will Shero move Henrique (who's stats should be inflated given Zajac's injury), or Schneids to a contender? Anything to help out the D-core would change many peoples outlook on the Devils. |

My issue with Moore is that as good as he is moving the puck and joining the rush, he really needs to be paired with a stay at home guy, preferably one with some size. The Devils don't really have that, but they do have some slow footed guys who try to fill that void. It's a square peg in a round hole type of thing, but it will seemingly happen again this year. IMO Moore's strengths do not outweigh his shortcomings, and on a talent-thin roster those get exploited even more. |

I can respect that opinion. I feel like he is not an ideal fit as he is currently used. A solid stay at home D would certainly assist in his short-comings |

On this Devil's team all the defenders are basically playing up from where they should be. Andy Greene isn't really a #1 guy and it gets worse from there and Larsson was a big loss. (I'm fine with the trade, just saying).
I suspect Nesreddine's defensive system isn't doing much to help but I think there are other factors. |

Right!!!! So how come everyone s**ts on me for stating that he should really take lovejoy off the second pairing??? Sure thats a role that he might not be ready for, but lovejoy doesn't belong in the show at all anymore. |

Probably because there is a big difference between doing an impressive job at a prospect tournament and playing your way onto an NHL team. Let Will B go to camp and see how he does. They'll give him chances. |

4-4.5 M/y over 6 years is about as high as I see it going.
If less than that, 2.75-3.5 M for 2-3 years.

He has to be pretty close for pressing for a job if everything I hear about him his true. He seems like a real top prospect and finally a pure scorer. Have we had a chance to see him attend any of the on ice related events for the devils this summer ? |

Butcher has not played PRO yet. You can't jump the gun and just throw prospects in a top role just because they played well against other prospects their age. The pros are a lot faster, skillful and more physical.
Lovejoy isn't a top 4, I agree, but it's pushing it by saying he doesn't belong at all. He is a depth 5-6 dman on any team. He looked horrible on the NJD because we played him top 4 and even top2. That's a huge order to fill. It's not NHL 18 where u can just give any player top line minutes and they develop quicker lol. its a process that takes time by feeding minutes and responsibilities to a player that can handle it and wait till they get accustomed to it before giving them more. |

Everything you've said is true. I just figure the kid has excelled at every level, and there are abundant openings in the lineup to see what the kids got. He's not 18, he's already 22 so give him a chance, maybe he can continue to thrive as he has the last 4 years. |

I can see Schneider being traded within a year or two. As far as Henrique goes, I think Shero extends him. You need to have a few vets on the team, Palms, Rico, and Hall will be in their late 20's, early 30's by the time we're contenders. They can be the vets to lead all the kids into established players, not not to mention one being C, and the other two being A's. |

Butcher will be in camp and given a fair opportunity to earn what he gets.
My recollection from a few years back is people weren't expecting Severson to break in when he did. I think the kids everyone was excited to see were Gelinas and Merrill. But Severson had a strong camp and played so well they had to put him on the team and he quickly surpassed the other new guys.
Last year Auvitu played his way onto the roster and I get the feeling Hynes and Nesreddine are focused on performance first. Then they have to deal with the roster and waivers etc. but if he makes a splash they'll do what's best. |
