You expect the break the streak during our octocup run?

Not a chance.

Pfft. Your best defenseman could only BARELY beat a horse in a fake race.

He was the best of the rookie D.
Lili and Nielsen had rough weekends.
But luckily this rookie tourny means absolutely nothing.

Not to Ottawa fans.

This was their Stanley Cup.

Still can't believe they didn't make him stronger than the horse instead of faster.

sure, i agree that defense is the priority. but the cost to upgrade is too high.

upgrading bozak is a necessity too and maybe we can do it without hurting the future.

I think the forwards are set up perfectly for the spots they have available and the cap.

Play Nylander on the wing so he doesn't put up 70 pts as a center and get Draisatl money. Once he's signed long term, move him to 2nd line center. Let Bozak and JVR walk so Kapanen, Soshnikov, Leivo, Bracco, Rychel etc can take up those two winger spots.

fair (except for nylander - play him where he helps us win the most). we can stay the exact course and see what happens.

i just don't see this lou passively sitting back and hoping all holes are filled by prospects stepping-up. they'll be more active in improving the team imo.

Still in a developmental year. 9 rookies in the line-up last year. Expectations should not be set too high.

People have forgotten Luongo's deal because he's been playing so well despite his age. But holy (frank) the Canucks are going to be pissed if he doesn't contract some type of "Hossa Disease."
- AdamFrench

All those guys, including Lu, will go on LTIR just like Hossa did.

Youth is what it's all about now.
More stamina and faster.
Plus they have an excellent bunch of vets in Marleau, Kadri, JVR, Bozak and Martin.
Also their defense has been mostly together for a while, wouldn't suprise me if they came out of the east.

Oops, forgot Komagod...

I think next year will be the Leafs year. JMO... This year they will fill in a couple of spots as the year goes by.

They still need to fill in some obvious holes on defense to be considered as serious contenders imo.

Their offense is pretty much set, one of the best in the league.

marleau didn't sign on for development year.

brown and hyman aren't young rookies. they were slow-played so they they hit the ground running. zaitsev was also quite old for a rookie.

matthews, nylander and marner will be fine.

we probably only have 1-2 rookies this year playing significant games.

the other rookies last year had minimal impact.

I agree. Do what helps you win. Historically, cup winning teams have great centers. Having Matthews - Nylander - Kadri down the middle is one of the best young center depths in the league. They have more than enough wingers to fill in around them. If not, you can sign veteran wingers a lot easier anyway.

Yeah, development years are done when you make the playoffs and go toe-to-toe with the first overall seed and it's a close series. Throw in the OTL points the Leafs lost on luck last year and they would have cruised into the playoffs. It's on.

How can you say that one year after finishing last overall. They will be developing for the next several years.

They are allowed to win while they are still developing.

I don't think there is a hope in hell he takes that after signing away the majority of his earning years to a low price deal. This is his pay day.
