If it weren't for Brent Gretzky, Wayne Gretzky wouldn't be part of the highest scoring siblings in NHL history

3. Bobby Orr D
If not for injuries, he'd be #1 on this list

- BiggE

I'm not sure how many people realize Orr was only 26 his last full season in the league.

And I think if you put Gretz in any era he would have dominated.
I think Howe was like Jim Brown when he was mowing over 5'9' 160 white guys.
Just freaks of nature in a certain era.
Gretz was really an Alien playing hockey for fun.
I think he saw the game in slo-motion.

- Konalover

No doubt. He knew where his teammates were going before they did. I seriously doubt we see another player like that in my lifetime.

Sucks for Stolie. Was really hoping he'd get some games in this year.

Says a lot for what Hextall has done, depth-wise, that we have a quality young guy like Lyon, who will now own the net in LHV. I hope he's up to it, because Michael Neuvirth doesn't exactly have a great track record, health wise. Lyon could find himself in Philly before he knows it.

- johndewar

I think if Neuvirth went down with a long term injury, Hextall would sign another experienced journeyman to fill in rather than promote Lyon at this point in his development.

Not to mention that Gretzky routinely in his prime won the league scoring race by 60-80 points!
- MJL

That's it right there. Even in his era where it was high scoring, playing among other pros, he was still just light years beyond anyone else.

#99 was in the end of his career when I came into hockey, so I never really saw him play consistently in his prime, but yea, when you're leading scoring races by that much against other professional hockey players, you're ridiculous at hockey. Other guys at the time were playing in the same league, against the same goalies, in a high scoring era, and he couldn't be touched.

Looking at Noworth's injury history Elliott going to do the heavy lifting for the flyers

Ye, Lindros is one of the best players I ever saw play. Watching him play live when he revved it up was just draw jopping. However, he couldn't compare to Gretzky or even Lemieux in terms of offensive skill and production. In any era. That's just my opinion.

Landsberg fan posted the "booby prize" which basically was an Academy Award trophy but only the bosom.

I didn't see the one Scoob originally saw, there seemed to be one before that. He slyly edited the Booby Prize to the Nobel Prize or whatever you see now

Peak Gretzky was the greatest player I ever saw. Honestly, I'm not sure it's even that close. He was great and elite pretty close to the end but became far more of a playmaker the last 8-10 years of his career. The Gretzky who was still racking up huge assist number while he was scoring 70, 80 even 90 goals a year was the best player ever.

Lindros was certainly the best player I've ever seen on a game-in and game-out basis.

My first flyers game was March of 1996 vs the Sharks. I was eight rows off the ice. He was a presence, to say the least. His size and speed still sticks with me to this day.

And yet, they all pale in comparison to Forsberg for me. There was no player I enjoyed watching more, and I don't think there will be any others for me. I consider it a great honor to have seen him play in person multiple times. But I digress!

I don't know what we would do without the incisive with and brilliant humor of The Shakespeare Twins. Truly, they do those of us who frequent Hockeybuzz a tremendous service.
