Ottawa should just relocate to Quebec City. - Deeps27
Qc City is half the size of Ottawa but would probably have better attendance |

Agreed. That's the point - don't want to get to Kanata for a playoff game 'cause it's too far? Try not having a team for a couple decades to see how far is too far to go for a game. |

honestly instead of removing all those seats why dont they hold a regular contest for kids or families to win tickets for those seats....or even slash the price but for kids / families only. That still pushes the season tickets but also creates excitement in the future fan base. |

why don't the Sens just get a better team? That will fill the seats - all the seats. |

As a Sens fan, I'm not sure what the point of removing seats is.
It would be one thing if they removed them, and put a bar there or some kind of fun area, but nope.. they are just throwing a tarp over them. How stupid is that?
So instead of seeing empty seats in the upper ends, you'll see a tarp over those seats?
Games against Tor/MTL/Van/Cal/Edm always sell out. So they are just going to forgo that cash?
In the playoffs last year, they didn't sell out one game. They still had the highest attendance of any of the 4 teams who made the conference finals...... because they had the biggest building. Why give up that revenue?
If the Sens make the playoffs next season, I guarantee Melnyk is going to take the tarp off those seats and sell them as usual. Considering all the guy does is cry poor, it makes no sense whatsoever to give up that revenue.
If this is the best idea Tom Anselmi has, then he's gotta go.
Now that addidas has taken over and there is only one set of jerseys per team, the fans were screaming for the 'O' logo for our home jerseys this season and the guy ignores us.
Then his brilliant idea is to take seats away from the building, like that's going to create more demand and a better atmosphere? - Charliebox
I don't know what they are actually doing, if they are removing the seats or just putting a trap like you say.
But if it is just a trap, then they should just remove the trap for games against the leafs and habs that sell out.

Have to think Ellis injury almost completely takes Nash out on Duchene, they were reluctant move a Dman before, now i think it's pretty much a no brainer they are out |

Yes, I majored in Econ too.
Everyone understands the concept of supply and demand. Just because you threw in some fancy textbook-lingo like "equilibrium point" and "shifting supply/demand curves" doesn't make this anything other than a really overly-detailed explanation of a really simple concept. - eichiefs9

Apparently Duschene was attending a wedding , nothing to see here..... - Alexzanki
Nope, his agent said after the wedding that he is now skating in Toronto.
(But probably nothing still, just a negotiation ploy I bet.) |

I understand their reasoning for doing it, but it's not going to increase revenue.
This is what happens in Ottawa:
Tickets for games Mon-Thurs are ridiculously cheap on 3rd party 'scalper sites'. You can get about 20-50% off the listed price. Season's ticket holders buy the full package, and sell all the games they don't want to go to on these sites. Generally, those games are weekdays against small market teams.
These are the games I almost exclusively go to.
Anselmi is hoping that by taking away seats, it will curb this market. Thing is, he isn't thinking properly. Seasons ticket holders are still going to sell their tickets on the 3rd party sites and they will still be cheaper than the box office. Taking away the cheap seats is actually only going to drive more people to these 3rd party sites to buy them from season ticket holders.
And the dumbest part of all is that attendance will almost certainly be up this year, simply because of that pay fiasco that happened last year with the federal government, along with the fact that the team came one goal away from the finals.
And Melnyk/Anselmi will pat themselves on the back, thinking their genius plan of taking away seats is the reason. - Charliebox
So you think the Sens are poised to repeat ....good luck with that. |
