barring injuries/trades, those will likely be the 12. other than martin and moore, everyone is basically interchangeable somewhere in the top 3.

I just have a feeling Marleau will not be with Matthews... Maybe they will see if there is chemistry between Bozak and Marleau to make a JVR trade easier?

God, can't wait for hockey to start!!!!!

Why do we want a guy coming off a 20 goal campaign while playing in a matchup role to play less and get saddled on the 4th line. That makes zero sense at all. None.

I want the leafs best players to play more, not less.

Because i look at players attributes other than goals/points.

It's still a bit of a holding pattern for this season. 2018-19 is where things really kick off IMO. I'd prefer this as i lineup (for 217-18):

Hyman Matthews Nylander
JVR Bozak Marner
Marleau Kadri Komarov/Brown (preferably Komarov)
Martin Moore Komarov/Brown (preferably Brown)

Of a bigger concern is we need penalty killing dman, which implies Marincin has a spot on the bottom paring this year.

Gardiner and Carrick are unable to kill penalties and i'd rather Zaitsev didn't. I also don't want Rielly on the 1st PK unit.

If it were down to me, we'd resign Polak for a year or two (if he proves he's healthy).

Either way, our PK will struggle a ton more this year without the much hated pairing of Hunwick and Polak

I don't want to get into an arguement, but honestly, for me, it makes a ton of sense.

Having Hyman with Matthews and Nylander is my preferred move and has been both before and since Marleau signed. I have been championing the idea all summer.

I also think Brown on the 4th line makes sense, until Komarov/JVR/Bozak move.

I understand why people want Marleau with Matthews and Nylander, but for me, in my head, that's not how the lineup will do the most damage.

I also don't think we should trade for a top 4 dman, as i think the Leafs can (and have) draft their own. But again, that's just me.

- walshyleafsfan

I can understand your reasoning. Hyman is very good defensively and at digging in the corners. What he is missing though, is dynamic offensive ability, which Marleau has. Hyman will be a front line pk specialist and should play on the 3rd or 4th line. He can move up if there are injuries (and there probably will be) I don't think the Leafs will trade JVR, but Bozak will probably be traded. JVR may be moved at the deadline but the Leafs will be looking for something worthwhile coming back. And I agree that a top 4 d-man is a pipe dream. Draft and keep trying to sign undrafted d-men.

Here's the problem with moving JVR - let's suppose the Leafs make the playoffs, how much money is it worth to the Leafs to get into the 2nd round? I'm not certain, but I would guess tens of millions of $'s. Is it worth moving JVR and a shot at that for a late first rounder, a second and a mid range prospect? I'm not sure, especially when you look at the type of player typically drafted there, someone like Gauthier or Rychel. JVR's replacement should be a player of similar talent.

I think that's the year the Leafs select Kadri and burkie snag from waiver the goalie from ottawa and numb nuts got a hat trick in the last game of the year to move the the Leafs out of the top 5 to draft.

he started on the 4th line last year and earned his time to move up. he didnt just move up in the lineup, he excelled. why on earth do we want to roll that back?
- burn

Agree - he only flew under the radar because of the Matthews/Marner/Nylander. Otherwise, people would have been giddy about his production. He was a really good junior on a very good team - kid can skate and shoot and plays the right way.

Yeah. I don't think any of the 3 will be moved before the TDL. Maybe not then either.

I agree with the lack of offence with Hyman. I don't think anyone has tried to argue otherwise. But you mentioned his strengths. They're the exact reason i believe he'll stay with Matthews and Nylander. For those reasons. I don't believe Marleau can do that.

Either way, we'll see very shortly. I think Babcock sees the game the same way i do.

It would be nice to have a goon that could also play. I like Orr, Martin, et al, but it would be nice to have someone who can play and smash

and if you are wondering why i put komarov on the 4th line, and leivo on the 3rd with kadri, is because the komarov kadri and brown line produced 0 points in the playoffs. leivo works well with kadri, has good chemistry, and had a ppg of over 0.7 (leivo). Id give that line some more spark with leivo.

Martin in over Leivo. I don't think he gets removed in his second year of his 4 year deal.

I literally have no idea why we still have Leivo. Don't think he fits anywhere and Babcock doesn't seem to like him. Maybe he'll play the end of the year should JVR get moved. I think Leivo will be traded though. Bit of a minor deal. Leivo for bottom pairing pk dman
