Doesn't getting better player on you're line make it more difficult to key on them? So you're saying if hyman is on that line still other teams will forget to key on Matthews and nylander?
- burn

Yes exactly..

Matthews line is going to be keyed on regardless....it will leave more room for a guy like Marleau/JVR on line 2/3.

But I understand if we keep JVR that Hyman/Leo will be probably bumped around somewhere or another and Marleau could be on Matthews left.

I think that Barolo Bob or Margarita Bob - whatever he goes by these days is wrong on this one. Marleau playing with Matthews and Nylander would make a great deal of sense.

Spend money where you can.

Absolutely no reason Toronto shouldn't have the best (or one of the best) management staff, coaching staff, development personnel, scouting and analytics staff. There's no cap on that poop!!

Never hurts to have more brains so long as it doesn't result in too many cooks in the kitchen.

- As_I_See_It

With the new stadium naming deal, it's been implies that more money will be ploughed into analytics, scouting and sports science.

I.just watched all the goals from the 2017 playoffs on YouTube. I think there's pretty much zero chance Hyman gets moved off that line. He really offers something none of our other wingers can. I know it's funny to say, but Marleau wouldn't give the other two the space that Hyman can. The amount times he comes out with the pick on the boards is frightening. Marleau with Kadri and Brown. Change it up for the PP

If you look at the wingers we have, it makes it hard to match up against the leafs. Even without marleau. Adding marleau makes them even more deadly. If the other 2 lines were so hard to match against then simply adding marleau to the top line keeps those other 2 lines as matchup nightmares, and strengthens the top line.

This seems to make sense to me.

It's seems to be leaning that way. I don't think it's right, but that's what it's looking like.

I don't think hyman is any better than others at these things and is not close to these others at things like offense.

Offensively, he's obviously not there with the others, but that's not the be all and end all. As long as the team's winning and the lines are clocking that's all that matters. Hyman is by far and away our best forechecker on the wings. By a country mile. Leave him woth Matthews and Nylander and have Marleau with Kadri and Komarov/Brown.

I actually think Brown will start with Martin and Moore.

Hyman allows the other two to do what they do in a way I don't think Marleau can. At the end of the day you don't put all your offense on 1 or 2 lines. Otherwise you end up underachieving like St. Louis or Anaheim. Spread around the wealth.

Wouldn't surprise me, but this Imo is a bout the dumbest thing they could do. It makes no sense at all.

Man, that team was awful👎🏻

Orr, Wayne Primeau, Exelby.......

How did we not get the 1st pick?

I don't want to get into an arguement, but honestly, for me, it makes a ton of sense.

Having Hyman with Matthews and Nylander is my preferred move and has been both before and since Marleau signed. I have been championing the idea all summer.

I also think Brown on the 4th line makes sense, until Komarov/JVR/Bozak move.

I understand why people want Marleau with Matthews and Nylander, but for me, in my head, that's not how the lineup will do the most damage.

I also don't think we should trade for a top 4 dman, as i think the Leafs can (and have) draft their own. But again, that's just me.

Why do we want a guy coming off a 20 goal campaign while playing in a matchup role to play less and get saddled on the 4th line. That makes zero sense at all. None.

I want the leafs best players to play more, not less.

I agree with you Burns - kid scored 20 goals with limited ice time. Would not make alot of sense to put him on a 4th line.

Here is my prediction for the opening night forwards:

JVR-Matthews-Nylander
Marleau-Bozak-Marner
Hyman-Kadri-Brown
Martin-Moore-Uncle Leo

Thoughts?

Well his leash is already getting short with the amount he played Marincin and the 4th line... my patience is going to wear through if Hainsey is on the top pairing and Hyman is on the top line.

he started on the 4th line last year and earned his time to move up. he didnt just move up in the lineup, he excelled. why on earth do we want to roll that back?

barring injuries/trades, those will likely be the 12. other than martin and moore, everyone is basically interchangeable somewhere in the top 3.
