We had the similar thought, but the kitchen cabinetry was all done by an old-school cabinet maker so is really solid... I need to do some refinishing soon, but no way in Hell am I breaking some up! - lumlums
Then what about lowering the floor? |

I would cut the bottom off the old cupboards. Nobody ever uses the cupboards over the fridge anyway... My wife would require a friggin ladder to get to them... |

Advice needed:
Fridge that came with the house is no longer refrigerating. It's not under warranty anymore, and I don't have an invoice for the purchase, so I can't purchase an extended warranty.
Getting a guy to come in to look at it will cost $70, and then I'll have to pay for repairs on top of that.
Would you go the repair route, or upgrade?
I'm leaning towards upgrading, because at least then I'll have it under warranty, and if one thing has failed, there's probably a good chance more stuff will as well. - Feeling Glucky?
If you have the $$ for a new fridge, I'd sink my $$ into that. |

Funny story:
The Bob Rae NDP government decided (and rightfully so) that all the old, inefficient fridges were a terrible drain on Ontario Hydro. It would be better to pay people to help them buy new, energy-efficient fridges. So they offered up a healthy rebate on on new fridge purchases.
Except..
People bought new fridges, and took their old, energy-inefficient fridges and put them in their basements - so they were using 1.21 Gigawatts to cool a case of Extra Old Stock and some freezies from last summer's camping trip.
Whoops. - Atomic Wedgie
Ah yes, our trusty old laundry room fridge. |

Got the money, but looking at some other significant expenditures, that will likely require a LoC as is. |

My in-laws put there kitchen in, then they did there flooring after. Put the flooring right up to the dishwasher. The counter top sat on top and was to tight to pull the dishwasher out when it broke down. Ended up having to replace there counter tops and the dishwasher. |

The guy we bought the house from was a woodworker who did flooring and stairs... but when he redid the floors he went with laminate on the main floor including the kitchen, and the basement.
We've already had to replace the basement flooring thanks to some flooding, so that's vinyl now, and I'm just waiting for the kitchen stuff to start bubbling near the sink. |

He actually doesn't.
He's got a degree in English literature.
Meaning he can read.
He sure as hell can't write. - Atomic Wedgie
Too bad there is no feedback on those sites - would be fun to troll a little. Does he have a Linkedin profile?

Is it a newer fridge? If so pay the $70 to have some look at it and tell you the cost of repair. If the cost is high get a new fridge. But at least you will know for sure what the cost will be and you'll only be out $70.
If its an old fridge. Upgrade. |

If you want to cheer up, just google 'Garth jorts' - TheMussel
Jack Eichel?
More like Jacked Eichel!
Would you look at the pipes on that guy!
Seeing is believing.
Notice the increases in muscle in Eichel's biceps, triceps, pecs, lats, traps and core.
Eichel clearly has done the work in the gym.
I love the jorts, Jack! Gonna get me three pairs.
Jack better get a permit to bring those guns back to Buffalo.

Everyone knows that metal expands when it heats up, so why not just turn down the temperature of the fridge and freezer so that they shrink a little? |

Fridge Repair Guide:
If it used to be white and is now yellow - upgrade
If its white and still is white - pay $70 to find out the repair cost, my guess $200-300 including the 70
If its stainless - pay $70 and repair.
The most common repair on new fridges is the ice maker if its located in the door, well at least that's what I read in consumers report two years ago. |

Just get two dishwashers.
Then you don't need cupboards to store dishes, cutlery and glasses.
You take out of dishwasher A, eat, put dirty stuff in dishwasher B. Fill it up, turn it on.
Then you take stuff out of dishwasher B... |
