The Pens won three cups fair and square. Tank or no tank, there are multiple ways to a Stanley Cup. Neither of which holds more virtue than the other.
- StepfordSam

Guess that depends of your definition of fair

I heard you could write a number 2 after the Destiny you already own and pop it in and play and its about the same as plunking down another 60 bucks for the new one.

No sign of Joe Griefer, and now that I think of it, I havent seen Trollinaldo since I've been back... at least one of the Shakespeare Twins was lurking about earlier.

It really will. Because we get to see Sandheim, Hagg, Morin, Meyers, and maybe even get a look at Rubstov, Frost and Ratliffe for a few games.
- MBFlyerfan

And Patrick, Lindblom maybe some other kids can surprise.

Yeah, I didn't even mention them because Im convinced they are a lock for this team. And those others I mentioned because we may only get to see them in preseason.

I just find it hard to believe he and his agent wouldnt have expected what happened. He thought he could get a long term deal at the same time he wasn't trying to keep his save percentage around 900?
- YuenglingJagr

I'd bet he was going on his Flyers career avg and the fact that the D was so "Flyersy" last season.

I don't know squat. Maybe the fracture was so severe that there really WASN'T anything to talk about. I just find it hard to believe that all things being equal they would go with Neuwirth over Mason. That's what makes me think things weren't equal. Nothing more than that and Hextall saying all along that he was open to bringing Mason back.

Maybe the blame(?) was on Mason. Maybe he was set in his mind he was done here. His agent just didn't sound like that was the case. Like he was confused why there wasn't a contract coming.

All of that leads me to my summer long stance on the Mason situation. No one seems to know. Maybe rumours shake lose once the season starts.

I'm enjoying this. Especially the way DeGrom has seemed to own the Phillies.

I really like what I've spent tonight reading on The Athletic. Obviously I read the 2 Flyers articles, though they covered familiar stuff for me. But I read an Eagles article on Barnett and the 2 Sixers articles too, and not even by Derek Bodner, the best Sixers write in the biz.

National coverage provides so much though, hockey and otherwise. Ken Rosenthal is the chief baseball writer, since written words are banned on Fox Sports. Pierre LeBrun is also a hire now. Read some baseball articles. Read a couple articles about the Sharks......like Joe Thornton's decreased 5v5 role with the increased prevalence of the Sharks running a low-to-high offense scheme and how few F-F-F goals were created. Sounds familiar. Or Hertl's ability to replace Marleau on the PP. Good Aus-ton Matt-hews article about his ability to get off the ice with momentum directed against the other team, causing the following line to see a significant play boost at start of on the fly shifts. Read Pronman, though I don't care for him. Read a former Leafs video manager lamenting some aspects of teams watching too much of it. Skimmed an article about Mrazek. It just goes on and on.

Truly there is just so much detailed (frank)ing content on all sports I can't read half of it. Some I probably wouldn't anyway depending. Comment sections are pretty illuminating too reading (some) writers talk to the self-selected group of fans.

You really believe the career numbers are representative of their capabilities?

If you seriously do, I am not sure what to tell you. Mason was a mess in Columbus and wasn't the same guy here. Elliott hasn't had a season outside of St Louis with a save percentage over .910. Career numbers is just idiotic

I am confident if Mason and Stolarz were the goalies, Mason would have a save percentage over .915, as he has in 4 of the 5 years he was with the Flyers. I am not confident Elliott will have a save percentage over 0.915.

Is Elliott capable of being an average-slightly above average goalie? Sure. Is Neuvirth capable of being an average-slightly above average goalie? Sure. Are the Flyers capable of making the playoffs with Elliott/Neuvirth? Sure.

- YuenglingJagr

See, now you're 100% on the same page as me. Not to mention Brian Elliot is older now and Michael Neuvirth is injury prone. It's all about what you've done lately, not what you've done your whole career if you simply squish the numbers together.

I don't think Elliot/Neuvirth is as bad as some people are making it out to be. I also, as I said before, am fairly certain Elliot put up pretty solid numbers in the last 3rd of the season last year. Could surprise some people.

Basically, I envision another year of not great but not terrible goaltending.

For $3.99 a month, the price of a Big Mac, I figured I'd try a year out. I'll cancel it after if I want. But they have a lot of good writers across all mediums covering a wide array of teams or national stories, and they've assembled quite the group of Philly team writers. Some articles more stats-heavy than others, but they're easy to follow and blend the stats/eye/narrative aspects well. It's the offseason too for most of these sports, so I imagine it'll ramp up.

You know what will really help the Flyers goaltending? Clean exits from their own zone. You know what else will really help the Flyers goaltending? Winning that first face off on the penalty kill and sending the puck the length of the ice.

I don't know who is going to take that initial draw on the PK, I just hope his % is better than whatever Bellemare put up.

Brian Elliot having a solid third of one season is not impressive to me.
