Good move in theory.
May have been better with a guy like Winnik who has that 3rd line grinder thing going on that playoff teams like. Either way, give Vanek all the good zone starts and plenty of PP time then flip him. Pump and dump. Easy peasy.

Keep following the Leafs model and it should turn out fine. Sign European FA's like Holm, draft a lot, and keep flipping.

It starts with getting Utica competitive first then the Nucks. The kids need to win games in the AHL before moving to the bigs (minus the obvious standouts)

Good job Benning.

No it doesnt lol. Waivers and trades and press boxes are a thing. If you think Gaunce and chaput and burmistrov and weircoch are guaranteed spots because of their 1 way deals (i dont think Chaput or megna actually have 1 ways though) you are mistsken.

To edit. 7 teams in 4 years for vanek. Only thing veteran about him is his age and speed.

You can bury 900k in the minors so their deals are irrelevant, 2 million you can't put the entire thing off your books.

Do you think we are 10-15 points better than last year?

My idea is tearing down to minimum , drafting high picks, collecting other picks , a new style and a new ideology .
- VANTEL

You still need veteran players to insulate the kids. Just hope it's not the Sedins.

I don't have a problem of bringing someone in next year just make sure he is 28 not 38

Why would he be waived? He scored at a better pace than any player on our team last year. We suck

What does that have to do with anything? You've given a veteran a spot by virtue of his contract, they'll still be at the bottom, that's not the issue.

As long as they make room for Boeser I'm happy, hopefully Jake has a good camp too and pushes a POS like Gaunce Megna and Chaput out the door.

Savy I tell ya!!! "Inherits a good prospect pool", you obviously don't follow the team. Do you see how he's increased the total number of picks in the draft since he took over? The first year he was a bit handcuffed from Homers idiocy but 2015/2016/2017 he's selected thirteen times in the top three rounds those years. Adding draft picks is what your guy should be doing.

All those picks & cannot find a goalie forever....

We are talking about bad decisions . So yes

Vanek just adds to the pile. These sort of moves add up and take you out of getting a top 5 pick and getting a 10-15 pick

If not a top 2 it's about quality not draft number.
JB has done pretty good at drafting overall.
I've no faith in a number only in who actually is drafted.
Boeser looks pretty good for example.

I would like Gaunce to succeed also . He has a good defensive game .He is the exact opposite of Goldobin.

Who says the kids wont get a look at development camp to compete for jobs. Benning said that if a prospect beats out a player for a job, he would make room for them if they deserve it

Too many ppl ignore that lol

Why would Hextall waste assets for goaltending help now, that situation is on Holmgren. Hextall is just cleaning up his mess. He's drafted some very good young goaltenders by the way, Sandstorm was awesome at the world juniors and Stolarz is ready...almost.

I never post on other threads but I have to say this was a good pick up in my opinion.
Who knows if he plays well enough he could be worth a 2nd to a contender at the deadline! Cost you nothing but money!

Too bad Benning isn't as savy as Hextall, you'll get there eventually, but in a Kevin Lowe fashion.
- DraftandDestroy

lol…PHI hasn't had any resemblance of a goalie since Hextall and your giving advice?

Pretty much. I think his defensive game is pretty underrated, but man he's a black hole offensively in the NHL. In the AHL/junior, he was decent so maybe he can crack 15-20 points a year and turn into a strong defensive C that you cant trust against a scoring line.

Goldobin is defensively challenged and looked lost more often than not. Boeser looked good in 9 games, but he should have to compete like everyone else. 9 games doesnt mean lock by any means
- Codes1087

ya it was pretty noticeable. 1st game he looked fine but it was after that. Makes you wonder if something happened between him and the team. He's not exactly got a great rep that way

Vanek is a brillant move for 2 million. He will do in any case better then Loui Eriksson
this year with PP alone.Move also clearly says that Canucks are in for another transition year
