Of course, there's 60 games before the TDL but I'm thinking it's about entertainment value as well. Vanek will give you a guaranteed 40 points, not sure if the kids will, but I'd like to find out.

Then I suggest you follow Utica because that's where they will be playing.

Expect 30 year old ex-Canuck, Jack Skille to sign a contract with Minsk in the KHL in the next couple of days.

- VANTEL

this is an outrage, he is only going thee because of Gagner, Vanek, and all the other veterans brought in. Where is the rebuild if guys like Skille have to go else where because veterans are taking their spots...

Just because a guy gets stuck in his own zone all the time, doesn't mean he has defensive skills. Gaunce is awful.

Source? I didn't witness that at all.

it wasn't so long ago that people were saying that hedman was a bust.
- RealityChecker

He's been awesome the past five years I don't know why they'd say that? His first three years you heard it but he's been in the league for eight years now.

Will he though? Im not sure hes any better then WD. He hasnt proven anything. WD was great in hia first season, terrible after that. Only real difference I see now. All the youth is older. They replaced hansen, sbisa, burrows with Gagner, Vanek and MDZ. A bit more quality depth. Before finishing 2-12, would have probably finished around the 75 point mark. I totally expect them to be somewhere this year also.
- manvanfan

no willie and lidster sucked all 3 years they just got worse every year

I assure you TG will be a major improvement.

Can we just drop the damn puck and find something else to talk about geez the canucks will be fine, jb has done a nice job stocking the cupboards, the depth is much better when injuries happen.
- Bettmanhatesus

I agree with all this completely
we improved in key areas like PP and offense on D
plus our coaching staff improved dramatically!
Lots of positives heading into the new season

just odd that you'd pick a guy who took 4+ years to justify his draft pick position to show how yzerman has done better on his early picks than benning (who's been here 3 years).

i agree with your larger point but that benning has to hit on the early picks but it was an odd example to use.

kinda like wanting to give kids ice time even though they can't beat out aging vets.

where's the patience you preach?

No it hasn't, the guy hasn't coached one bloody game at this level, the guy will lead the team to a top 5 pick and you will proclaim that as an improvement because you had such a hatred for Desjardins.

You will continue to praise Green as the greatest coach in Canucks history the same way Vantel female doges about the Sedins.

Everyone has the opinions, but I would have preferred a proven coach, Benning is 60/40 in my books, Linden was a head scratcher other than a fan favourite, what were his credentials. So many questionable decisions from this management group overall, but I guess we strap in for the long ride.

I don't see it, he will do no better than Desjardins.

I remember the exact same statements last season. Green will play to win and with this group will still loose. female doging will continue, except a few will praise Green as phenomenal but handcuffed by Benning.

The way out of the quagmire has always been through the draft. By delaying the inevitable rebuild, they just prolonged the misery.

They should have been accumulating picks and prospects through outright sucking and offloading vets.

They're starting to do that now and just because they're late to the party doesn't mean the strategy should change. No need to put in the prospects just because we know the team's going to suck anyway. Let the prospects develop and play them when they are ready for a full season *cough*mccann*cough.

In any event, I see new management being brought in pwhen the team truly craters (this year or next.) If the team gets the first overall, I could see aqualinni pulling the trigger at the end of this season as a way to sell a fresh start.ĺ

I don't know where you're coming up with the "4+ years to justify his draft position" that's not true at all? As a big defenseman it took him two years to get his feet under him in the league, his third year he played well and in his fourth year he was excellent. Not unlike a certain Chris Pronger who was questioned his first few years and then ended up being one of the best dmen to ever play in the league.

Also, I don't think I'm being impatient at all, I'm wondering why they don't give some kids a longer look, which they yet may do, at the NHL in the regular season. If they fail then sure, send them down, but I'd like to see more than training camp to get a feel for them.

Chris pronger? He was questioned b/c of his off ice party attitude. He was traded in a blockbuster after his second year. He was always thought to be a superstar.

If you finish last, yes.

Gotta finish last though

Alternatively, you could pick 2nd and select the best player in the draft like Winnipeg did.

He was questioned because of his play and his performance, read the article. There's a lot of literature out there on his play during the first few years of his career.

As for Hedman, obviously a lot of media people were completely wrong.

I used him because he's a great player now and yes we need some time to determine Bennings picks, however, he's had four drafts now, from his first draft in 2014 they have Virtanen (who was obviously a miss considering the kids taken behind him that are so much better) and Demko who's largely and unknown.

It's too early to judge the majority of his picks but in the next couple of years, if he's still around, judgment day will be upon us.
