If its change for the sake of change, then that's fine. Cant really argue personal opinion on how someone likes to be entertained

If the argument is that they money is poorly spent, then you cannot also advocate bringing in veterans in their prime, for the same dollar, that are producing at similar rates as the guys you want out. If the past regime made a mistake, why engage in a similar one?

Very true. I for one an ok watching Gagner MDZ and Vanek and would pull my hair out again if I had to watch Skilless, Chapoo, Magma and Gonch for the full year.

But I do see what Benning and co. are trying to achieve. WD and the UFA's that were brought in for WD's first year somehow fluked themselves into the playoffs. I'm betting they are hoping for similar results but realistically this is still a bottom 10 club even with the additions of Vanek Gagner and MDZ. But...with TG as head coach maybe a fluke will happen like with WD his first year...but very doubtful.

There are definitely more aspects to the game than points, so some variance is expected, but I think excellent value has to be around that 110k mark or less. That list you provided seems to be a current snapshot of "fair value" - $120k-160k per point
- WhiteLie

I tried to include some tail end players. Younger and mid age players. I dont think the contract is unreasonable. It also is for only 1 more year. I dont cpunt the Sedins as top line players anymore.

It would be terrible if they got more money IF they were extended. Even worse multi year deal. Lots want change and feel it wont come until the Swedes are all gone. I still think its up to the coach to help them play differently.

Fluking into the playoffs in a strong draft year would kind of suck.

Vanek will probably be tried out on Bo's RW in pre-season.

you are probably right there

Willie is the worst coach this franchise has ever had in my opinion
- CanuckDon

agreed...and quite possibly the entire nhl

It'll be a nice change to watch some NHL caliber players on the ice, less sloppy play hopefully

I dont mind Benning's moves at all. I was just challenging the notion that if the Sedin's are overpaid for production, then bringing in Turris and Kane for similar dollars is an equivalent mistake

True. I still think we finish bottom 6 with this current (and soft) roster.

Yep true.

I could see looking at Turris or Kane to prep for the Sedins departure but that's about it.

Agreed. I don't care what he has done in Columbus, he was a joke here. WD isn't even bottom 3.
- CubanBuffet

honestly Im not trying to defend the job he did when he was here cause he was a lazy fck....but there is 1 thing I recall...we were 3rd in the nhl for the 1st 3rd to 1/2 way through the season under him. So he did ok till the dressing room fiasco then the floor fell out

It's amazing to me that any one would consider hiring him after that. He was like a cartoon character. He was like Mr. Burns coaching a team to lose on purpose. The only upside was no sideburns that year.
- CubanBuffet

cartoon character is exactly right way to describe it. Torts the cartoon coach

Then he took Columbus to a 100 point season. Take the good with the bad just like every other cosch in the NHL.

For sure, they would need to take a pay cut to match their projected production (if they want to keep playing), 40 points multiplied by the going rate.

I agree, but I think it has to do with the players as well. They need to assert themselves both on the ice and in the room to show the twins that they are background figures. I believe they keep sticking around because they feel needed

Personally I dont have a problem with the cap hit, I just dont think they would accept a short term. Turris will be 29 to start next season and will want to cash in, just adding to a logjam of mediocre C's behind Bo

It will be over quickly if no one responds to the predictable and really amateurish provocations and nonsense.

Further to the new radio station, The Athletic has just launched The Athletic Vancouver. Subscription based, but has been attracting a large number of good writers left stranded by the push for video content
