I'm pretty sure the only difference between a pro ball and college ball is that there are 2 white stripes on each side of the laces on the college ball making it easier to see in the air. Also in the NFL, Wilson makes all the footballs and in college the ball contract is set up by the conferences.

Unless they made a change in the past few years the college ball used to be fatter in the middle and a bit shorter, so it sailed a lot easier and was more stable. It was super easy to throw a perfect spiral with.

Edit: I used to have a college ball, it was definitely bigger than my friend's NFL one. Insert innuendo here.

You are just used to watching under-inflated balls the Patriots use.

Its possible the dimensions of the ball have changed over the last few years. Some people were saying the NFL ball has quite a bit of red dye in it and that can make it much more slick when wet. Also the little dimples on the NFL ball were much pronounced.

FWIW, this says the NFL and NCAA use the same size football: http://www.stack.com/a/football-sizes.

*EDIT: I hadn't backread when I posted, but I see the same link was already posted.

They definitely used to be different. I wish I could find a picture of my old one. I don't even have it anymore.
