Yes, they decide before camp which AHL players will make the roster.
Training camp is apparently all an illusion used to make the unknowing fan think that players are actually competing for jobs. In reality, it's all a ruse. Apparently. - jmatchett383

Pavelski hit him back and to the left. Back and to the left. |

But seriously. That 1 exhibition game, a month before the season, where he got a minor ding, didn't affect his year, and there's no proof of it. He came back in the tournament to play another game and mostly sat recovering anyway for reasons that weren't entirely injury related. - Mononoke
Wasn't that minor of a ding. Admitted when he got to camp, without going into specifics, that it had hampered him physically but claimed to be feeling better. |

Or something that could easily be aggravated again and again?

Don't know. He wouldn't say at the time. Only said it affected him for awhile during the tournament (while he was sitting out games). But did say much later in the season that it took him a long time to feel 100% after the off-season surgery. He ran on adrenaline early in the season but hit a wall. |

Let's say Giroux retires after the season that starts when he's 34, so six more seasons. If he averages 60 points the next two seasons, then 45 the following two seasons, then 35 his final two seasons, he'll end up with 855 points, 6 points above Propp, and 28 points below Barber. If he stays healthy, this seems doable. |

Stevens had the right, Smith was holding a Caps player who was fighting another Islander.
It should have just ended with the ice caving in. |

I didn't mean to minimize it as a paper cut injury, only to say that the theory that it had a long lasting effect on his season and was a major part of his struggles, as was suggested, seem far fetched to me.
That injury still occurred over a month before the season, he returned in the World Cup right after, came back to camp and still had 2 weeks before the season, during which he partook in pre-season games. The injury that is calling out with bright red lights as a reason for his struggles is the double hip surgery.

It was an up and down year. He cratered in Jan-Feb numbers wise.
October 10 2 10 12 -7
November 14 3 5 8 -1
December 14 5 6 11 5
January 13 1 8 9 -10
February 11 1 4 5 -4
March 15 2 9 11 2
April 5 0 2 2 0

Just hope he starts and finishes as close to 100% and we are having a discussion next Sept if G can repeat his great output of this season.

His skating and mobility was obviously affected. Hopefully it's not permanent and it's something he can bounce back from.

Aside from Giroux's admitted lag recovering from injury, I think the second biggest factor in his downward trend offensively is replacing what Hartnell brought to his line at even strength and on the power play.
Hartnell may not be as purely talented at Schenn was/is(maybe so), but his puck winning ability in the left corner and beside the net were what really differentiated him from Schenn. Hartnell's ability to win pucks and keep possession going, opened ice for Giroux and Voracek/Jagr that they haven' t replaced since he was traded. Schenn could replace the tip-ins and left-slot shot but not the rest.
Since Hartnell left, the amount of times where Giroux has slid down inside the left dot to fire one on net have almost disappeared. So have the times where Voracek can come in back door while Giroux and Hartnell control half of the zone. While I don't want to rely on a rookie to fill those shoes, I also hope that Lindblom can bring those qualities to that line. If he does, and Giroux is healthy, maybe we see the first line be as explosive as a few years ago. |

I love this post, because it is correct.
Scott Hartnell was on 3 of the best lines the Flyers had in the past 10 years. That's no accident.
The Flyers divesting of BSchenn was good for both the Flyers and BSchenn. He'll get a shot to play center (probably) and we can move on from his expectations (which were outsized).
