I've read this argument 1000 times since the Leafs have young players (never before that mind you). I'm gonna be all over this like a fat kid on smarties towards the end of next season.
No doubt, the big 3 will be in for whatever a 3rd year slump is called. - walshyleafsfan
How did this blog all of the sudden become all about the Leafs? C'mon, it's supposed to be about how bad the Canucks will be for the next decade. |

Again, you can't see the forest for the trees. Their best players are in their 20's, they have the best defensemen in the league, their goaltending was solid, they defend well as a team....they draft really well for a team that hasn't had a top five pick since 2001, sixteen years ago, and that was because they traded Yashin to the Islanders. - LeftCoaster
anderson was their 2nd best player by a country mile. good luck at 36 having him repeat that.
their defense is complete garbage outside of EK.
they have a few good forwards. i'll give you that.
but i'm not getting fooled by their fluke run. |

We're talking about "what if's", not absolutes so you can come in halfway through a conversation and cherry pick whatever you want. I'm just giving him some scenario's that could happen, then what? |

thing is, somebody has to win, and the leafs were the most likely.
but i'm sure benning has it all under control for you guys |

Last 2 years we had better odds then most and fell as far as we could fall, that isn't Bennings fault. You got lucky, no sense arguing about it! Did Colorado win last years lottery? Picking Virtanen is another story though

The thing is, the Leafs started their full on rebuild 2 or 3 years before the Canucks.
Thus, it's no surprise that they are exactly 2 or 3 years ahead of the Canucks lol.
I mean hey, throw a back-to-back 1st and 4th overall pick our way and see what happens.
Moreover, one could argue that our overall prospect cupboard/depth is in better shape at our point in the rebuild then it was in Toronto's case.
Needless to say, it's not an argument that can be 'won' anytime soon. |

Detroit has the worst forwards by far. Also, the worst D. Goalie is decent, even with no help from the D. |

That's a given though. There's not a lot left to say in that subject. When a fanbase gets excited about Goldobin, you know you're in trouble. |

no one is really excited about Goldobin. Goldobin is exciting because we have nothing in our prospect cupboards, and getting rid of aging assets for former 1st round players under 25 is a slow but steady step in the right direction. |

To be fair, from what I've read since April, it seems a given that they will have a sophomore slump, they'll all get injured, the Leafs we're lucky last season and I'm not sure where we stand on the Matthews to Arizona issue |

To be fair, Virtanen was 6th.
After him? Two soft Euro's. |

Well, we know exactly what would happen... Benning would probably select the 7th and the 13th best players! |

I think it's more so a case of ownership then it is strictly our management team.
Unlike Toronto, where the hoards/sheep buy tickets regardless of the quality of the on-ice product, Vancouver residents don't pay to watch a loser.
As such, Aquilini, against all better judgement and rational, attempts to force the team into the playoffs year after year....

Benning is a stealth GM.
He's into a rope-a-dope style of management. |

I remember when the Leafs ownership drafted Schenn and Biggs. They then traded Task for Raycroft. Bloody ownership. |
