I would agree with this. I think their forwards are better than Vans. Goaltending is better than Vans, Defense is getting a little long in the tooth though. Cap is killing DET though. Athansiou (sp) is a player I don't think they want to miss out on.

Presently their group is better, or at worst even, with ours in my opinion, cap issues aside, they've got some guys who had down years like Larkin who suffered from the sophomore slump and Mantha has a good rookie year so I expect better from them next year.

The issue, in my opinion, is that very few of those prospects have the potential to be true difference-makers. Horvat and Boeser both project as legit NHLers (Horvat already is), but not superstars. More likely nice second-line pieces

Problem is mostly the significant drop off in depth and the fact that those bad players are signed long term.

I don't care about some outsiders opinion, something to write about is all it is.

Our forward core is definitely a bit stronger. That new GAR model ranked our forwards pretty favorably actually (think that was from The Athletic which is paywalled, so no link to defend that, sorry). Everything that could have gone wrong for the forwards did: Larkin sophomore slumped hard, Athanasiou and Nyquist were terribly misused, Sheahan was laughably bad and Abdelkadar predictably regressed without Datsyuk.
Its our defense that is a dumpster fire and the reason we will bottom out this year.

Everything that could have gone wrong for the forwards did: Larkin sophomore slumped hard, Athanasiou and Nyquist were terribly misused, Sheahan was laughably bad and Abdelkadar predictably regressed without Datsyuk.

The fact that the answer isn't automatically the Golden Knights shows how rough a spot the Canucks are in right now. Horvat and Baertschi should take steps forward. Boesser is still pretty raw so his ceiling is unknown. I don't see the veteran support for these guys, especially after this season. Going to be a few long seasons for Canuck fans.
