See, even though Recchi is one of my favorites, I don't identify him as a Flyer either. Some of you might disagree but a Flyer to me is big and tough. You bring a certain truculence to your game. If you don't have this, you're a skilled pesky player like Giroux and Briere. I don't see Recchi as any of these things, even though I I've the guy. I know Desjardins and Gagne were neither but it's hard to explain. - SuperSchennBros
Recchi played big, kinda of like a super skilled DiMaio/Upshall. While he wasn't a brute, neither was Mark Howe. |

I'm fine with Recchi's number not being retired here but I'm gonna give the credit to Mark Recchi none of you want to give. Mark Recchi might be the most balanced player I've ever seen play. I've seen him play both wings for extended periods of time as a Flyer. I've seen him play center. I've seen him take many faceoffs. He was an all situation guy (PP, PK). He was responsible with and without the puck. He was a leader where he went. He could play the point on the PP. I didn't know whether or not to call him a sniper or playmaker because he had the perfect balance of both. He didn't fight much but he could fight and play a gritty game as he got older. |

Most balanced player ever?
Moreso than Federov, Forsberg, Yzerman, Messier, etc...
All of the above were more complete players than Recchi |

Fedorov had a very hostile exit from Detroit. What he and Detroit went through would make it seem like Lindros and Clarkie were drinking buddies back in 2000. For what he did on the ice, he absolutely deserves to have his number retired. Time has not yet healed all of those wounds, though. - jmatchett383
Yes and No. Fedorov has shown up to some (not all) Red Wings events. Out door games. I can't remember if he skipped Lidstrom's number being retired or the Joe closing or Hawe's funeral. |

I'd take Fedorov and Datsyuk over him every day.
Recchi may have played both wings, but Fedorov played as a defenseman, and he did it an an All-Star caliber. Easily the most complete player I've ever seen. |

Agreed
Edit: also Recchi was an average defensive player while Federov was one of the best |

Recchi never lost me. That brawl broke out because the game before Martin Havlet took a cheap shot to Recchi because Havlet didn't know how to keep his stick down. That was the root of the whole brawl. - SuperSchennBros
i know the root of the brawl. i was just referring to his ridiculous behavior during said brawl. it was a joke. never mind. |

Yzerman adjusted and changed his game. Forsberg wasn't exactly known for his two way game because he was too busy taking over games. |

And Federov?
Edit: Recchi was no better defensively than Forsberg, nor as strong on the puck and he lacked Foppa's ability to take over games.
Recchi isn't even on the same plane as a guy like Federov |

Elliott should just wear 1 as he's done with other teams. As for Lehtera, should probably just take 16. - hockeylover
i was just looking through a Top 10 Hockey categories book i bought for my son two years ago and noticed the inside cover spread is a photo of Elliot being scored on by Patrick Kane in a shootout. i laughed out loud, and thought "of course". |

I think the fans have forgiven him (they gave him a standing ovation at the Alumni game), but I don't think management has yet. |

I would've had him centering Jagr.
Some lucky team still could. |
