I have to agree with those on the side of not retiring Recchi's number. Flyers HOF for sure but for some reason he just doesn't seem to identify as a Flyer to me. - MJL
He's got that stink of Pittsburgh on him
Rex was a great player for Philly but I barely ever think of him as one of THE guys.

I was trying to remember player to wear 37, thank you. 15 was obviously easy
What a beast. He was just crushing everything that year. He was built like a damn linebacker. He's just as imposing off the ice too. Saw him up close at Primeau night in 07 and wow, dude has some shoulders.
Recchi had 627 points as a Flyer; 8th in franchise history. LeClair is 7th (643), Brind'Amour is 9th at 601.
BTW, Claude Giroux is currently at 575. Within the next two seasons, he will likely be in the franchise all-time top five in points. He won't catch Clarke (1,210) and probably won't catch Barber (883) or Propp (849) but the top four is reachable. MacLeish is currently 4th (697) and Lindros is 5th (659 in just 486 games; best points-per-game average in franchise history). - bmeltzer
It isn't necessarily fair but winning a cup is another way to cement your legacy. If G stays consistent enough and wins a cup here, I could see his number being retired.

Recchi's best years in Philadelphia, individually, were among the worst in franchise history.
That's not Recchi's fault at all. But he's gonna be associated with that on some level.
No disrespect to Recchi, but that's just lowering the bar. I mean if you retire his number, where does it end? If all it takes is to play here awhile and fairly well, christ we'll have players wearing 3 digital numbers by 2030.

He's actually a very good one. Like Recchi in Carolina, he came to Detroit as a missing piece who could add veteran scoring and leadership. But he was never "the man" on that team. Totally different type of players, but similar career achievements. - jmatchett383
Speaking of which. A lot of people are up in arms about Fedorov not being retired in Detroit. I'm one of those who agrees with this far group. It sounds like only management is holding this dream back.

See, even though Recchi is one of my favorites, I don't identify him as a Flyer either. Some of you might disagree but a Flyer to me is big and tough. You bring a certain truculence to your game. If you don't have this, you're a skilled pesky player like Giroux and Briere. I don't see Recchi as any of these things, even though I I've the guy. I know Desjardins and Gagne were neither but it's hard to explain.
so who is this one Flyers fan who didn't have Provorov in his top 25 list of players under 25? and honestly how is he not on everyone's list at least in the top5 if not 3?

maybe he lost you when he violently slapped the ottawa player with his elbow pad during the 2004 brawl.

Recchi never lost me. That brawl broke out because the game before Martin Havlet took a cheap shot to Recchi because Havlet didn't know how to keep his stick down. That was the root of the whole brawl.

I think G catches Barber for 2nd. He needs to average 63 points a year for 5 years. Definitely within range. Points should be somewhat easier to come by as the team fills with talent.
If he is second all time he gets his number retired.

Fedorov had a very hostile exit from Detroit. What he and Detroit went through would make it seem like Lindros and Clarkie were drinking buddies back in 2000. For what he did on the ice, he absolutely deserves to have his number retired. Time has not yet healed all of those wounds, though.
